Byung-hun Lee and Sandrine Holt Join TERMINATOR: GENESIS

Byung-Hun-Lee-Terminator-Genesis-Dragonlord.jpg

Byung-hun Lee, who played Storm Shadow in the G.I. Joe movies, has been cast in a key role in Terminator: Genesis, the reboot of the sci-fi action franchise being made by Skydance and Paramount. Also joining the cast are Mad Men actor Michael Gladis and Sandrine Holt. The trio join stars Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke and Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as supporting players J.K. Simmons and Dayo Okeniyi, in the movie that Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) is directing. Lee's role is unknown but it promises to be a doozy. Details for Gladis and Holt also were not revealed.

The project aims to be a continuation of the James Cameron classics and is trying to tie all the threads and even take into consideration the time passed. For example, Schwarzenegger is back as Terminator cyborg and his older appearance will be explained. Okeniyi is playing the son of Miles Dyson, the Cyberdyne exec played by Joe Morton in Terminator: Judgement Day; the character was a little boy in that movie. (Emilia Clarke is portraying Sarah Connor, Courtney will be Kyle Reese and Jason Clarke is John Connor.)

Lee, a big star in his native South Korea, made his American debut with G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and also appeared in Red 2. Gladis played ad man Paul Kinsey on AMC's acclaimed Mad Men. Holt had a key role in Season Two of House of Cards and is currently shooting Air (she plays the female lead), the Robert Kirkman-produced sci-fi indie that also stars Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou.

Toby Kebbell to Play Doctor Doom in FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot

Toby-Kebbell-Doctor-Doom-Fantastic-Four-Dragonlord.jpg

The last significant piece of the new Fantastic Four puzzle is set. The character Victor von Doom, more commonly known by his only slightly more evil-sounding name Doctor Doom, will be played by Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans, Prince of Persia). Deals are being finalized, but assuming everything goes according to plan, he’ll join Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell in the film. Variety reports the deal without offering many more details about how Doom will end up on screen in this version. But it can’t be worse than the Julian McMahon version in the 2005 film, right?

We do know that the Josh Trank film, scripted by Jeremy Slater and rewritten by Simon Kinberg, is leaping off from Marvel’s Ultimate Fantastic Four comic series. The characters will be younger than the traditional versions, and some precise origin details will likely differ from the original story written by Stan Lee in the early ’60s.

The Ultimates version of Doom actually has the “regular” name Victor van Damme. (Variety specifies the “von Doom” name, but that could be incorrect.) He is an aristocrat who is descended from Vlad “the Impaler” Tepes. He’s involved in the same scientific program as Reed Richards, and is instrumental in the accident that gives the Fantastic Four their powers. How many of the Ultimate details will end up in this film? We don’t know at this point.

Fuckin Top Gun 2? Inspiration is at an all-time low....

I suggested a Big Trouble in Little China sequel.
We get to see an older Jack Burton, role reprised by Kurt Russell, learn what he's been up to the last 30 years and go on one last adventure.

Its a no brainer imo.
Its not a reboot, its a fun as hell idea, and nobody gets hurt.

My hopes for a movie (F.F. III) haven't been this low since Ghost Rider II.

Scott Caan is in negotiations to replace Shia LeBeouf in Rock the Kasbah, the all-star comedy being directed by Barry Levinson. Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Zooey Deschanel, Kate Hudson and Danny McBride are starring in the pic. Kasbah tells of a has-been rock manager (Murray) who takes his last remaining client on a USO tour of Afghanistan. Caan will play an ammo-dealing con man, who along with his partner (McBride) hustles Murray in war zone Kabul. LaBeouf exited the role last week in what was described as amicable circumstances. Reasons for the departure were not disclosed. Caan stars as Danno on TV

A trailer has been released for Gia Coppola‘s high school drama Palo Alto. Based on a book of short stories by James Franco (who co-stars in the film), the film features interconnected narratives involving a soccer player (Emma Roberts) getting involved with her coach (Franco), a precarious friendship between two young men (Jack Kilmer and Nat Wolff), and a young woman (Zoe Levin) who bases her self-esteem on having sex. Sam-Worthington-Anna-Kendrick-Dragonlord.jpg

The Wrap reports that the cast of director Daniel Barnz’s (Won’t Back Down) indie Cake will be filled out by Anna Kendrick (mine!), Sam Worthington, Chris Messina, Felicity Huffman, William H. Macy, Britt Robertson, Lucy Walters, Camille Mana, Manuel Garcia Rulfo, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. Jennifer Aniston stars as a woman who becomes fascinated by the suicide of a member of her chronic pain support group. When she starts delving into the woman’s life, she develops a relationship with her widower and grapples with her own personal tragedy.

Kendrick will play Nina, the woman who commits suicide, while Worthington will play Nina’s husband. Nina apparently appears as a ghost, taunting Aniston’s character. Additionally, Messina will play Aniston’s ex-husband and Huffman fills the role of the support group facilitator. Kendrick recently wrapped the role of Cinderella in Disney’s big-scale musical Into the Woods, which opens this Christmas, and also stars in the indie musical The Last 5 Years. In addition to Cake, she also has Pitch Perfect 2 on tap to film this year. As for Worthington, he’s currently filming the survival drama Everest and is due back to shoot the three Avatar sequels late this year.

SNOWPIERCER to Open Los Angeles Film Festival on June 11

Snowpiercer-Evans-Bell-040214-Dragonlord.jpg

Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer will open the Los Angeles Film Festival on Wednesday, June 11, festival organizers announced Tuesday. The film, which will have its North American premiere at the festival, will be released by RADiUS-TWC on June 27. The post-apocalyptic action thriller, adapted by Bong and Kelly Masterson and based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige, stars Chris Evans, Song Kang-ho, John Hurt, Ed Harris, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, Ewen Bremner and Alison Pill. [Click HERE to read my review.]

Set in a future in which a failed experiment to put an end to global warming has resulted in an ice age, Snowpiercer hit theaters in South Korea in August, breaking a record when it sold four million tickets after just a week in theaters, the shortest time span for a film to reach that level of admissions in South Korean box-office history. It has earned $59.8 million in South Korea to date.

“Snowpiercer is a wild ride and a spectacular way to open the 20th anniversary of the Los Angeles Film Festival, which is dedicated to the visionary spirit of L.A. that inspires artists around the world,” said Stephanie Allain, festival director.

Sheldon Turner to Reteam with Tom Hardy for SPLINTER CELL

Splinter-Cell-Blacklist-040114-Dragonlord.jpg

Screenwriter Sheldon Turner had written a screenplay for a Mount Everest movie set to star Tom Hardy and be directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity). That film was going to center on George Mallory, who tried to scale the mountain, but disappeared during his ascent. However, that movie has fallen apart because Baltasar Kormakur’s Everest is already filming (it’s about a present day group of climbers) and will reach theaters first. Turner, Hardy, and Liman are now reuniting for another project: an adaptation of Ubisoft’s popular video game series, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.

According to Deadline, Turner will write a new draft of the script, and production is gearing up to shoot in August. Turner will then go direct the modern day Western, Borderland. For those unfamiliar with Splinter Cell, the games center on Sam Fisher, a black ops agent who uses stealth to carry out his missions. American Hustle‘s Eric Warren Singer wrote the most recent draft. Splinter Cell is ready to shoot in August. The hope is to get going with Hardy, Liman and Turner on Sony’s Everest next year, with Turner’s Vendetta partner Jennifer Klein producing.

Topher Grace Joins Nima Nourizadeh's Actioner AMERICAN ULTRA

Topher-Grace-600x200-040114-Dragonlord.jpg

Topher Grace will join Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Walton Goggins, and Uma Thurman in Nima Nourizadeh‘s American Ultra. Max Landis (Chronicle) wrote the script and Nima Nourizadeh (Project X) will direct. The story centers on Eisenberg’s character, a stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend (Stewart) is upended when his past catches up with him, putting him the crosshairs of a government operation bent on wiping him out.

As for Grace, Deadline says he will play a hotshot CIA agent who has recently taken on seniority that has gone to his head, and power-hungry he begin a mission to kill a secret government asset. Presumably, Eisenberg’s character is the asset. As it was previously reported, Thurman is playing a government employee who spearheaded a secret program to create sleeper warriors, and now that someone wants to kill her creation, she will fight back like a momma bear protecting her cub.

This is the pic Lionsgate scooped up just after Berlin with a $7 million pre-buy for U.S. distribution rights, one of the richest deals to come out of the fest this year. Grace recently wrapped production on Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and is shooting Home opposite Patricia Clarkson.

Saoirse Ronan to Star in John Crowley's BROOKLYN Adaptation

Saoirse-Ronan-Photo-Dragonlord.jpg

Saoirse Ronan, Domhnall Gleeson, Jim Broadbent and Julie Walters have assembled in Ireland to shoot John Crowley's Brooklyn. An adaptation of Colm Toibin’s New York Times best-seller from a script by Nick Hornby, the movie also stars Emory Cohen (The Place Beyond The Pines). The story is set in 1950s Brooklyn. The script was developed by BBC Films, the public broadcaster's movie-making unit. The movie is set to shoot for three weeks in Ireland before moving in mid-April to Montreal for four weeks.

The film tells the story of a young woman, Eilis (Ronan), who moves from a small town in Ireland to Brooklyn, where, unlike at home, she has the opportunity for work, for a future and for love, in the form of Italian-American Tony (Cohen). When a family tragedy brings her back to Ireland, she finds herself absorbed into her old community, with Jim (Gleeson) courting her. As she repeatedly postpones her return to America, Eilis finds herself confronting a choice between two men and two countries.
