written after the CIA-supported military coup in Brazil in 1964, it makes use of a lot of Christian imagery (ostensibly being about Christ's prayer at Gethsemane) and analogies to challenge the military and speak about the tortures they were committing. one of the final lines is pretty haunting: "Quero cheirar fumaça de óleo diesel" (I want to sniff deisel fumes) is a reference to a protestor that was arrested and tortured to death, having his mouth taped to an exhaust pipe. Cálice means "chalice" in Portuguese, but also is pronounced the same way as "cale-se" or "shut up."
