- The Dutch gov. (no doubt bowing to US pressure) just announced they would restrict ASML from selling 2 models of lithography machines to China
- The 2 models are both DUV (Deep Ultra Violet) machines; not the absolute cutting edge of lithography; which would be EUV (Extreme Ultra Violet) machines. EUV machines were already restricted. DUV is still used in industry alongside EUV.

- China insists the Dutch "respect market principles"

Beijing criticises Netherlands' move to block ASML exports to China

---
EUV allows for more transistors for a given chip size compared to DUV.

China has been playing catch-up trying to make their own machines. Not having ASML's newest machines to play with hurts their ability to reverse engineer / steal ASML (and American) technology.

China is angry the West is not keen on selling technologyt to China that will be used by China to dominate East Asia and eventually the world.

Instead of ASML, how about we give China some ASMR from twitch thots instead.

This is what happens when you put peepee in our coke.

It'll only take $10 million usd or less and some lonely engineer to sell some schematics/blueprints.

At trade shows, our company would avoid the Chinese walking around taking literature. We would never sell to them due to the reverse engineering. Don't blame the Dutch here.

I strongly suspect ASML has a robust internal security apparatus. Plus they use numerous subcontractors, some of whom provide critical components. So China needs spies or sell-outs not just at ASML but at the major subcontractors in America, Japan and Europe.

I still remember there was a thread a few years ago about China making new lithography machines that would rivals ASML.

I haven't had a good laugh like that ever since.

Lithography is the one tech category that China will forever be catching up on, while consistently be at least a decade behind. This will remains true even when our children are old enough to be arguing with one another on Sherdog.

I would be curious if the e-beam system producers will do the same. The two producers I am thinking of are out Germany and Japan. Both places aligned with the west.

China get scared when this happens because they know their entire modern development depends on stealing and cloning Western technology.
Their business model is "anything others can do, Chinese can copy".

This includes Western hairstyles.
