Boxers pad their records and collect paycheques like O Malley does…why isn’t it more common?

One of the best things about the UFC is unlike boxing, fighters get tested early. Which is why it's baffling to see them blatantly protect O'Malley like this. No other prospect has received this kind of favoritism.

WMMA champs pad their records all the time too. Look at nunes last few fights (aside from GDR).

Thats just because the female MMA is a very small sport compared to the males.

If you are a female athlete, you got like 80-90 % chance to become a top 5 fighter in the sport. Just by putting in the normal worktime in the gym.

A man cant say the same. You got to be special to make it to the top.

The UFC hates their contractors other than the lucky few with Dana priv.

O'Malley will have to face the music eventually but you are correct, he is building an impressive resume by avoiding the top guys. Guys like Chandler show up with an impressive resume from the B-league and get back-to-back high $$ fights.

Problem is, the fight game is a short career. If you got game, you can't f-ck around, you need to fight the top guys to get a title shot before injuries take their toll. Tough business.

Ahh the B league statement. I remember when this was debunked after wec merged lol

Well what he’s doing is wrong. The UFC/MMA in general is better than boxing because they don’t do this shit. The best fight the best and the special fighters get moved up quickly.

Basically, he’s being a pussy and cares more about money than being the best. Nothing wrong with that, but I respect the fighters that chase greatness more.

Dana is usually against padded records. so he'll make guys fight up even when they dont want to. O'malley is a special case tho. he could be a potential superstar (stoner / jake paul demographic) . So dana is going to pad his record up, favorable stylistic matchups, etc.

By the time he fights a top #5 Joe Rogan will be saying "yeah jon... o'malley is on a 7 fight streak at bantamweight... thats UNHEARD of... this division is full of killers! nobody has done that! If he wins there is strong case for a title shot.

it definitely helps 'hype' up the fighter for casuals. introducing anthony joshua as 20-0 sounds better than saying he fought 18 cans and 2 legit dudes.

It's a fine balance when a step-up is best for the fighter coming up. When he is ready. Boxing is different in that way, coaches can choose a path for their boxer. When in the UFC they get fight offers, constant step-ups, legit guys fast. And there's pressure as they can get cut.

O'Malley looks ready. Yet is facing the same level. On one hand you could say he gets to improve that way, more time in the gym, more wins. On the other if he does improve facing outmatched competition. If he even needs to get ready. With him I think it's clear he's ready. While others can get chewed up.

They add up stats and built up a highlight reel KOing scrubs left and right.

O Malley is doing it and building his brand and collecting paycheques.

Most guys get chewed up and spit out by the UFC in a few years screaming for top 5 opponents.

Darren Till is AGAIN headlining against a top 10 opponent when he does not belong there.

He is running his career out and taking a lot of Damage and ruining his record instead of taking out 8-10 scrubs in between good opponents.

PRIDE did it and it was awesome.

Cro Cop kicking Dos Caras Jr.a head off showed what happens when superhumans fight regular people.

Like Spider-Man vs. Regular people.

That's exactly what UFC didn't want to be.

They do, just not as much.

This idea that the UFC immediately throw new talent against lions is BS.

They build up the competition from bums to journeymen to top talent just like boxing. They just do it quicker aka 6 fights instead of 20.

Sean is smarter about his fight selection despite how intelligent he acts. Sean also luckier that UFC building him more so than most. It will fade honeymoon should end soon, but Sean does attract viewers so they r careful not to burst his bubble to quick. He might surprise and keep progressing. When Max faced Conor I did not expect he would rebound and climb straight to champ. Sean is not Max but he is a decent striker.

Boxers are able to fight way more often with way lower injury potential- from training and the actual fight. Injury potential is so high in MMA, that, along with people entering the scene at a later age, if someone really has aspirations to make it to the top, they need to get after it. Every fight could be the last one, even against a weaker opponent.
