Revenge?

Brad's opponent on Wedn: Gamzat Magomedov trains 8 miles away at KHK, 14 minute drive

BRAVE CF 57's main event earlier this year was a very tough pill to swallow for KHK. One of their star athletes, Hamza Kooheji, came close to bagging the team yet another international title, however, it was not to be as Canada's Brad Katona (11-2) stole the show with a split-decision win to clinch the shiny BRAVE CF bantamweight belt. The event took place at the Khalifa Sports City Arena in the heart of Bahrain and in front of thousands of Bahraini supporters, rubbing even more salt in the wounds of Kooheji and his team. It is this bitter memory that helps drive Kooheji's teammate and close friend, No. 1 ranked Gamzat Magomedov (7-1) – as he steps up to the plate to exact revenge on Katona in their championship fight at BRAVE CF 63.

"Of course I want to take revenge on Brad Katona and return the belt to KHK and make our fans and friends happy again," said Magomedov, who has worked his way to a title fight following a five-fight win streak in the glamorous BRAVE CF 135-pound division filled with a long list of killers.

What makes this bout even more special for Magomedov is the fact he has built such a close relationship with Kooheji over the years, one that has transcended the boundaries of teammate status, a bond that has evolved into a brotherhood.

"I have known Hamza since 2016," Magomedov said. "I came to Bahrain to help him prepare for the first BRAVE CF event. He helps me with everything while I am in Bahrain. He helps with any problems I have here. Over the years, he has become very close to me.

"I felt that Hamza won that fight, but the judges gave the victory to Katona. With that said, I want to beat Brad Katona even more. Brad has no negative emotions toward me, and nor do I have any ill feelings toward him. We treat each other well, but in the cage I feel a great responsibility to myself, and I am motivated for this fight.”

With the win over Gamzat's teammate and close friend the SBG Ireland representative Katona sits atop the BRAVE Combat Federation bantamweight division. But Magomedov feels that he is better in all areas as he puts in his application for the 135-pound belt in the first installment of the iconic Kombat Kingdom series, BRAVE CF 63.

"I watched Hamza Kooheji vs. Brad Katona very carefully," Magomedov said. "Brad did not show anything special in this fight. He's good at striking, wrestling and grappling, but not on my level. He didn't surprise me at all. I can't see how any part of Katona's game can be better than mine. He won't be better at striking, and I know I'll be stronger than him in wrestling. He might be able to come up with something on the grappling front, but I'm ready for anything. The cage will show everything.

BRAVE CF 63 takes place on Wednesday, and it is headlined by a vacant super welterweight world title fight as top contenders Ismail Naurdiev and Marcin Bandel face off for the right to be called the No. 1 175-pound fighter in the world. Magomedov's shot at champion Katona will serve as the co-main event.

.....................................

BRAVE CF bantamweight champion Brad Katona (11-2) is going "all-in" on his BRAVE CF 63 title fight against No. 1 ranked Bahraini Gamzat Magomedov (7-1). This Wednesday, in leg one of the iconic Kombat Kingdom series, Katona will make his first title defense after beating Magomedov's teammate, Hamza Kooheji at BRAVE CF 57 and he is ready to once again put it all on the line. For ''Superman'', the facts speak for themselves.

"It's not trash talk, it's the truth," said Katona, who is going all-in on himself on Wednesday's showdown. "Is Gamzat the best fighter I've ever fought? We'll see. I've beaten some pretty good guys, from Bryce Mitchell to Borislav Nikolic and Hamza Kooheji. Am I the best fighter he's ever fought? Absolutely.

"I may not be a betting man in the traditional sense, but I bet on myself every time I enter the cage for a fight. I am all-in on me. I am pushing all my chips to the table," says the Canadian, who encourages those who have a taste for gambling to do the same. "If I am a betting man, how do I bet? Well, me. Nothing's new here. I am always all-in, and if anybody should bet on this fight, they should bet on me. Why? Well, just look at my record."

An athlete with an extremely high fight IQ, Katona is unbeaten at BRAVE Combat Federation. The SBG Ireland representative sits atop the BRAVE Combat Federation Bantamweight division, leading a row of killers following wins over Nikolic, Bair Shtepin and Kooheji, respectively. Reflecting on his journey thus far, Katona is proud of his achievements as he has successfully implemented his plans in BRAVE CF, however, the champion is far from complacent.

"Looking back on the past year-and-a-half, pretty much my whole BRAVE CF journey, I feel quite proud because I did what I set out to do. I said I am going to fight the toughest guys and eventually claim the bantamweight title. I have done that, and I am going to continue doing that. It's been quite the journey, and there is no slowing down here."

Katona's opponent, Magomedov – who is riding a five-fight win streak – is renowned for pushing the pace and getting extra physical with his high-level wrestling. His grip-strength and clinch work are things of beauty as he slowly breaks down his opponents, forcing them to wilt and bend to his will, however, Katona is excited about matching the KHK Team Bahrain star's pace before reminding him why he is the champion.

"I match up very well with Gamzat. He's another tough fighter from KHK (Team Bahrain) that I'll be fighting. He has heavy hands and good wrestling. But I am just a different animal. The level of refinement, my decision-making in the cage, those are next level and what make me a 1-of-1 athlete. There's not many like me, and I am excited to show the world what I have been up to in training camp these past seven months."

Katona's fighting style is testament of his predatorial and mathematical approach, as 91 percent of his wins come either by submission or via long drawn-out dominating decisions. Heading into his first fight as BRAVE CF bantamweight champion "title" and "defense" are the two furthest words from his vocabulary.

"My approach with this is purely offensively-minded," Katona said. "It's to go and take the belt from Gamzat. I am not defending anything. I might be the BRAVE CF champion, but I am in the exact same position I was when I was fighting for the title. It is simple, if I don't win, I am not the world champion. So every time I step in there, it's with the goal of taking it from them, and when I bring that, I am a hungry fighter, not a defensive fighter."
