In the spirit of us Canadians minding our own fucking business, I thought we should have a thread wherein we discuss the coming Federal election on October 21st 2019.

In the interest of an actual informed discussion, here's the platforms for all the major parties, except the Bloc. If you're going to vote for the Bloc, you're going to vote for the Bloc.

What are the issues you think need attention in Canada? Who do you think will best address them? Why and based on what?

I'll start:

Our defence procurement is a fucking joke. Left or right, Canada needs to be able to protect its borders or we should consider closing up shop. We have no Naval surface to air capability at the moment, and because of pan parliament ineptitude that cannot be rectified for another decade, and even then, it won't be Canadian scientists and engineers who will be involved with its implementation. New fighter jets wont be delivered until 2025, and we still don't know which jet we're purchasing (at this moment, there's only one sensible purchase).

We have our own problems to worry about with healthcare. Our wait times continue to be excessively long, and a sizeable percentage of our population does not have a primary care physician. I don't actually think this is a funding issue. We spend enough. Our government, for the moment, probably does not have the inputs to actually fix the problems with the system. One problem is that the government can't insist on more doctors of a specific type, and where they should be located. We don't have enough primary care physicians, but we also can't force physicians to be GPs, or specialists of any particular kind. Another problem is that people go to emergency rooms for primary care, including for chronic illnesses, largely because they have nothing else. This is not a spending issue, this is a systemic issue made worse by the fact that the actual implementation of systems is the responsibility of the provinces. I would support an NHS style intervention. Whatever we're doing for the moment isn't working.

Our infrastructure is a joke. It's honestly the most embarrassing thing about coming home for a visit. The 2nd largest country in the world connected by a sparse network of goat paths.

You know, however much I love our health care, I have to admit that it does have its issues. My wife has an ear issue which is not major (probably) but is an irritant. She went to her doctor about it over a year ago now and got put on a wait list for a specialist to check it out. Since it doesn't appear to be a major issue and rather just one of discomfort/inconvenience, she's a low priority to get in... And it has now been over a year. At this point we're starting to look into other options but aren't even really sure where to start since we've never had to. This is just one small thing but I've heard of others with similar issues and sometimes more serious ones.

Trudeau bash all you want, but this isn't a Trudeau specific problem and I'm not sure who is offering solutions.

Edit: As for defense, I mean, maybe it should be better, but the reality is that we've basically outsourced the vast, vast bulk of our defense to the Americans for a long time. Unless we're ready to drastically change Canada's approach to military that's not changing - and frankly, Canadians likely want to strip down our defense spending more, not less, blissfully unaware that the only reason we can do this is because the evil empire to the south is doing the heavy lifting for us. If we're only going to be paying lip service anyway, and unpopular lip service at that, why not just focus on things Canadians can get behind - like getting more ear specialists?

Ontario PCs have made such a mess in under a year that Scheer made them take a 5 month break to try and keep them out of the media so that they don't taint the federal election. Don't think its working.

Wouldn't be surprised if Trudeau wins again.

I'll be sticking with my NDP vote as usual.

I'm kind of thinking NDP myself this round. I went with Trudy last time but I am not in love with his performance and his rhetorical strategy bugs me. I'm not fundamentally opposed to voting Conservative, but they have to make a damned good case for my vote which I have yet to see materialize - it's more a bunch of fairly vague plans and an "I'm not Trudeau" message.

My biggest issues are Healthcare, immigration, the housing market and ecomnomic opportunity, especially in my downtrodden province.

To me the most important issues are social ones. There will always be ups and downs with the economy but the social issues Canada is facing have permanent damaging effects.

Canada is so divided culturally and politically. Trudeau really did a number on Canada by saying it doesn't have an identity. Now liberals think Canada is a free for all where any culture can come and establish itself.

Is our identity any non Canadian culture with the main culture being auto tune hip hop culture for the youth?

The LGBT thing is getting out of hand. Human rights tribunals are getting out of hand. It's a constant Canadian guilt trip and old stock Canadians are considered to be racist colonizers that don't have an identity or culture so who cares if it's replaced with different cultures.

The liberals and dippers have also jumped on the ban guns band wagon. Now any Canadian that wants to protect the sport shooting culture and prevent a New Zealand style confiscation in Canada has to vote Conservative. Liberals will be dumping close to a million unregistered semi autos on the street if they ban or restrict semi auto rifles. Many shooters in Quebec refused to register their guns with the province.

The fear mongering about the environment is way over the top and liberals are saying Canada is facing a national crisis! Carbon tax us while China still pollutes the air? That makes a whole lot of sense.

There's only one party that can deal with this because the NDP, greens and PPC can't beat Trudeau.

Liberal Party of Canada - Center Left corporate cock suckers dabbling in identity politics. THEY'LL TEYK YER GUNZ!
Conservative Party of Canada - Center Right corporate cock suckers who probably wont take your guns.
People's Party of Canada - Retard level libertarian fever dream party. DURR WE NEED A FLAT TAX DURR.
Green Party - The environment is the only important issue at all.
NDP - Irrelevant leftist party with no concrete policy proposals. They are a critic party, always have been, and will be for the foreseeable future.

CPC - Canadian Conservative Party (Center Right)

NDP - New Democratic Party (Center Left)

LPC - Liberal Party of Canada (Center Left)

GPC - Green Party of Canada (Center Right) also known as Conservatives on Bikes

PPC - Peoples Party of Canada (Center right) Offshoot of CPC ...newer controversial party. Mainly anti immigration.

NDP - Far left on almost every issue. Fairly insignificant party since the gains they made under Jack Layton.

Liberals - Justin Trudeau, nuff said.

PC's - Spineless, flip floppers with weak leadership.

PPOC - Brand new party with their leader having defected from the PC's. Strong opinions on political correctness and immigration. Libertarian minded. Literal nazi's of course.

The stuff the candidates (and Max) post online is quite disturbing. I believe a bunch staff resigned in one province due to complaints of internal racism.

Same. IMO the Conservatives aren't offering much besides "Hey, at least we're not the Libs". NDP is a complete non-starter at this point, Greens are even more irrelevant. Bernier at least represents a strong stance against the hyper progressive agenda (he's spoken out against Yaniv which to my knowledge no other PM candidate has done), I agreed with him when he was speaking out against the dairy cartel, and there's a bunch of other issues like immigration and border security where my beliefs fall more in line with his. My concern is his stance on environment, not necessarily from a global warming perspective, but protecting our lakes and rivers. But we'll see where exactly he stands on that once the election cycle really starts.
