I think that's more the Gaethje and Poirier fights - I do buy in on that narrative a bit cause he was way too willing to take damage to put on a show against Gaethje in particular, but in this Oliveira fight it was all about winning the title and not at all about catering to the fansGreat fight, thanks for sharing.
The only bad thing is this was the fight that started the dumb narrative that Chandler would be champ but he’d rather put on a show and get finished. Glad we’ve moved past that.
Agreed, but it goes both ways, I've seen countless double leg shots end up in guillotines.
Chand's anti-jiujitsu and his body type an absolute nightmare to grapple with.
bro gave his back and neck to a world class bjj specialist and got out of it unscathed.
goes to show you how good wrestling can absolutely negate top bjj positions and has done many times.
No he was not, but tbh he was in this champioship fight against Chandler more in trouble in the first round, than he was in the first round in his last championship fight. Now was Charles IN THAT MUCH TROUBLE? He definitely got tagged at couple times but I dont think he was close to out of it? Rogan and Cormier are pushing a narrative that Charlie was almost out. What do you guys think?
It’s a stupid rule ( knees on a grounded opponent) and many fights could have had a different outcome without that. I hate it how some fighters really take advantage of the rule, like Evloev and Mokaev lately.Crazy to think that if the grounded knee and soccer kick rules didn't exist, Chandler could've been undisputed champView attachment 1036593
Not taking anything away from Oliveira's win, it's absolutely legit and the rules applied fairly to both fighters. But it's a weird effect of the grounded knee/kick rules that it's harder to damage a grounded opponent rather than easier, making this forehead weave on the floor a good way to recover
