If Dana didn't constantly stipulate in the past that champions had to vacate their titles first before fighting for one in a different weight class there easily would've been more attempts.

McGregor had zero title defenses at Featherweight, was then given a shot at the Lightweight title without being required to vacate the Featherweight title, and when he went 1-1 with a journeyman Lightweight and hadn't fought at Featherweight in nearly a whole year, he still wasn't stripped of the Featherweight title and got a second chance at the Lightweight title.

Dana and the UFC protected and spoiled McGregor, pretending otherwise is nothing more than bias.

I am not a McGregor-fan and was happy to see Khabib tap him, but... Becoming a champion is a huge achievement. Becoming champ-champ is positively ridiculous. He might be the lesser of the four, but he undisputedly belongs in that company. No reason to try to take him down a peg over this.

Back in the day, the UFC didn't allow you to hold 2 belts simultaneously. Moving up/down would mean vacating your title. Conor was the first they let to become champ champ.
