Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer

They are literally jokes you would hear in the 90s on edgy morning radio shows. Just because it's Dave saying them doesn't make them good.
You never listened to opie and Anthony

And who cares, fuck mentally ill people pretending, it’s hilarious to make fun of them

The shock jock morning show i grew up listening to predates Opie and Anthony. They were making the exact same jokes 30 years ago.

We were talking about the Asian jokes. But the trans jokes werent funny either. Its not funny just because you dont like them. Not when it's the 4th special of telling the same jokes. Its lazy and stale. It would be for any topic.

Oh, that explains it, you like Howard

🤣

Not his best but the setup for his first joke was evidence of just how good he is.

You wouldnt have heard of them. In the 90s every region had its own local shock jocks.
Opie and Anthony weren’t shock jocks, ant was funny, Opie sucked, Jimmy was the star. He brought all his friends on, you know, comics

Chappelle has always "told stories", outside of his very early "Just For Laughs" days. That's just his style, and the style of many successful comedians. They were all of sudden "not funny" to certain people, when he started picking on a certain group, that insulted people of a certain political affiliation...

it's insane how fast they turned

its odd really, like a switch, off

Its not that. When he told stories it came across as someone just going about his daily life like everyone else. Except in this case his profession is a comedian so he saw comedy in situations.

Today its just low effort Twitter grievances followed by low effort punchlines.

People like you are why people are turning against comedy.

Its not about making people laugh anymore it's about providing bullys a safe space to make fun of the marginalized while saying "it's just a joke bro". Thats what you really want from comedy.

I thought it was better than his other recent specials.

probably not his best but still mostly funny and better than most other comedian stand up shows right now.

The backlash is funny about "punching down" "obsess with trans"
I hope he keeps trolling the sensitive Sallys out there how don't like comedy

No idea how he considered the best stand up by many. He was great during the early 00s. He never went back to that n I just think he's trying to be a,black George Carlin n hea not that great at it

Dave's new special. I didnt see any threads about this. Has anyone watched this? This is imo the weakest of his specials. I feel like every Netflix release has seen a decline in quality. I'd have to watch them again, but I might literally rank his specials in chronological order.

The jokes used to take center stage, now he's more about telling stories, often meandering that don't even have a punchline. I feel like he's phoning it in and just using these specials as an excuse to talk about himself.

Also hes way too obsessed with trans people. It was funny the first time but they are literally the centerpiece of every special now. I don't know of any other comedian who has kept bringing up the same topic over and over. It's super repetitive and the jokes keep getting less funny.
The more you talk about trans the closer you get to trying it. Dave is obsessed. I guarantee he watches the porn.
Dave has been a smug asshole since his buff clone came back. Smoking his cigarettes and telling long ass stories preaching without any real comedy.

Also FYI Dave Chappelle WORE A dress in robinhood men in tights. Since he was a nobody and wanted to get into Hollywood he did it and probably a lot of other shit too. Only to pretend later like he was so offended by it.

Shane Gillis is someone that makes me crack up like crazy. I love his podcast stuff too. He’s probably my favorite comedian right now.
Even though I agree with you, I still feel like he was probably offend /disgusted by it. He just did it anyway because self-respect doesn’t let you break through as easily.

Dave is Dave
I haven't hated his post Africa stuff and in general like his Netflix specials

this one was not the best but I was entertained

his story telling is impecable and he is master full with sneaking in little jokes

Dave is rich and old so now his connection to the world is other rich celebrities and the news

I'll keep watching but he may be on his way out

also looking at his posture throughout he has aged makes me a little sad

definitely not his worst stuff. I actually really enjoyed the opening trans joke. To me it wasnt about making fun of the trans so much as making fun of the fact that he cant get away from making fun of the trans. I mean the whole buildup had nothing to do with trans and dragged you away from even thinking about trans people and then the punchline is boom, Im still focused on the trans! Other then that, Nothing that was too noteworthy. The whole chris rock will smith part was enterntaining but it just felt like it was too late for the material. That story has kinda ran its course. Didnt find the handicap jokes or the asian jokes even slightly amusing.

I feel like every Netflix release has seen a decline in quality.
That’s what happens when you get a boatload of money to crank out specials as fast as possible. Most Netflix original content has been declining for this reason.

It's like expecting Pearl Jam to come out with Ten in 2024. Dude has been at it for a long time, of course his creativity is going to wane.

The trans joke wasn't the funniest thing to me but what's even funnier is his trolling about trans people. He knows people get really upset anytime he makes a trans joke so he just keeps coming back with them. The troll aspect of it is funnier than the jokes themselves. When people lighten the fuck up, he'll stop joking about them.
