Don't get mad at Izzy, blame the timid fighters

Cannonier went for TDs but he doesnt have the pedigree to do the little cheeky things that wrestlers do to really open up their opponents to being taken down (ex. singles into high ankle picks, pinching, doing weird shit to the groin area to make guys uncomfortable).

Honestly Cannonier was aggressive and showed heart and strength, the commentary was just so biased it really made it sound like was completely ineffective. Cannonier did lightyears better defensively and offensively than Silva, Romero, or Costa, and yet its going down as if he had nothing at all for Izzy.

Like I said in the PBP...he's MMA's Mayweather....He has a lot of skill and certainly COULD finish more fights than he does, but esp. in MMA going for the finish would make a L more likely. So he fights safe...but I agree, part of the blame is on his opponents too. You're not going to outpoint him or beat him on technique most of the time...so you have to be more aggressive and hope to catch him. Mayweather's closest (and most competitive fights) were against aggressive fighters. We'll see if Alex can give him a better fight...Izzy certainly won't be able to fight the way he did tonight.

Major difference is Izzy has far more power for his weight class than Floyd had for his so that's not an excuse. Also guys like Jared are a fucking joke, did his coaches not teach him what a fucking foot sweep is or any basic trips once in the clinch, hope cunts like him retire with zero fuking fight IQ.

This. All of the challengers are too content to get decisioned rater than risking it. Izzy still has his aura that scares everyone shitless.

I still think Whittaker with a few really minor tweaks could have won that rematch. Still be interesting to see how a straight kickboxing fight goes with Pereira.

People give him shit but it's going to happen with a fighter with a counter heavy style. Even if he doesn't get the finishes, he's landing the bigger shots and the other fighters are too intimidated to risk getting KOed.

This isn't lay and pray, Izzy still doing the most damage and is the rightful winner even if it's not the most exciting style.

No, Izzy deserves some shit here too.

He does just enough to scrape by a round.

Jared deserves shit too.

Both fought way too tentatively.

Floyd had enough power to stop people, especially when he was in the lighter weight classes before he started moving up. Izzy has some power, but is no killer. His power, like Mayweather's, largely comes from accuracy, timing, and speed....catching guys when they don't see it coming.

Who did Floyd stop prior to Conor? Victor Ortiz from a sucker punch, Ortiz who has almost no heart.

Floyd couldn't even stop or hurt Marquez who came from 2 weight class lower to fight him, Floyd was pretty much feather fisted at 147, Izzy is not.

Yes I get it, Izzy is amazing at keeping his distance and keeping his hand out there to gauge his range.

Yet most these guys just don't go for takedowns and closing the distance. In fact he was back pedaling in this fight.
He is the timid fighter

Diego Corrales, Ricky Hatton, Sharmba Mitchell, Arturo Gatti, Henry Bruseles, Philip N'dou, Jesus Chavez....Corrales was undefeated, Chavez had one loss on his record, Kostya Tsyzu was the only person to stop Mitchell other than Mayweather from 1995-2005, Bruseles had retired on one other occasion, Gatti...was Gatti, N'dou had been stopped once, and Hatton was undefeated.

Those are just the notable stoppages/KOs...

Cannonier was just content to lay back and throw away the biggest opportunity he will ever have in the sport.

He was just trying to make it to the final bell.
Took no chances and fine with losing by a wide margin. very hard to look good against guys who fight like that.

Fully agree with OP.

I’ll never understand fighters that fight tentatively when they know this will likely be the only shot they’ll ever get at a title.

I know it’s easy for me to say since I’ve never stepped inside a UFC cage, but taking risks and getting KO’d seems worth it in a title fight. You aren’t going to beat Adesanya in a decision in his division.

What part of 147 couldn't you read? Hatton went straight in to the corner post like a typical Brit on a night out, it did half the work in KO'ing Fatton.

Izzy puts them in this state.

He puts the most confident walk forward smash everything fighter (undeafted Costa), in a state that he literally can't do anything

Thats whats *whoosh* over this forums head, the majority 99% are casual fans with zero understanding of the sport, of what it takes to be able to do that time and time again, to everyone and remain undefeated with barely a scratch on you.

Mayweather's best divisions were Super Feather and Lightweight. At 147 he was fighting bigger guys a lot of the time (Marquez also didn't belong there)...of course he was knocking fewer guys out. Izzy is in the best division for his frame and in his prime, so is more comparable to Mayweather in the lighter weight classes than he is to Mayweather at 147/154.
