Being undefeated is overrated, eventually all fighters lose if they stay in the sport too long. Fighters who have loss has benefits because it forces them to work on a weakness to better their fighting abilities. Fedor was undefeated for so long and his competition forced him to not ever evolve, Fighters like GSP & Ortiz benefitted in their losses.

I don’t really know if you can count team sports, as the players have always lost at some point and the team has lost last season etc.

It only seems to be a thing in sports that you don’t start really young, don’t compete really often or have multi match tournaments in it, with elimination, and don’t compete against time or measuring tape and are allowed to pick opponents.
