French Justice Minister faces special court accused of abusing his power
"Investigators spent 15 hours searching his office at the justice ministry on July 1, looking for evidence linked to the allegations, which relate to an administrative investigation he ordered against three magistrates."
Dupont-Moretti is one of France's most famous lawyers, but Macron's choice of appointing him as the minister of justice was quite puzzling considering he defended several high profile corrupt politicians, including Patrick Balkany who is literally France's worst corrupt politician of my lifetime.
Dupont-Moretti is accused of using his new power as minister of justice to target some of the judges he faced as a lawyer, just to get back at them. He says his actions were justified by a pre-investigation made by other judges, which concluded that the guys were awful at their job and a liability. In fact, that preliminary investigation clearly said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with those judges, but Dupont-Moretti still went after them.
It looks like he's trying to destroy the "parquet national financier", which is specialized in hunting down corruption and is getting a lot of heat from the Republicans for going after former President Nicolas Sarkozy (who is currently charged in multiple cases). There are also fears that Dupont-Moretti is gathering informations about various confidential investigations, in order to use them later once he goes back to being a lawyer.
Dupont-Moretti hasn't resigned and has the support of Macron and his Prime minister Jean Casteix. Macron's first minister of Justice, François Bayrou, resigned after just one month in office because of a corruption scandal in his party, even though he wasn't personally charged at the time (he was charged two years later).
