Did they acknowledge it at all? With the ridiculous racial image results they publicly recognised it as a failure, and especially in regards to results regarding historical figures, groups or events.

They've been getting plenty of poor results all along. The image example just quickly and graphically demonstrated what a blunt tool prompt engineering is, but it's still been an industry wide practice for the last few years.
LLMs won't just repeat bias in the data and the prompts, they'll refine it and magnify it before spitting it out in it's crudest form.
Commercial viability is an easy excuse for ham fisted efforts to reduce bias, regardless of whether it's with heavily filtered training data or prompt engineering.
There's no excuse for pedophile apologetics though, that's just cause for immediate termination, which is why I can't imagine it getting implemented. It's not like Google doesn't implement modern practices of pair programming and quality control through code reviews before going live.

What? Google tracks, identifies and turns over more people for child porn through gmail and their other platforms than any other company I'm aware of. Been doing it for decades.
Apple only just started scanning for it last year.

That's straight from Anthropology 101. It's not about people identifying as other races, it's about racial identification being more about social context and appearance, a poor proxy for genetic information.
 
I was, 100% gonna give this shit some time to cook. I mean, not even google woud let this shit slide.

My local SPORTS RADIO station was blasting it as of yesterday morning. Like, they were laying into this shit and pummeling it non stop for hours. They're all dumb as bricks, and and even they were going at it, and dunking on it.

At leat google is siding with the left finally, and proving that AI art is awful.

Well the response can be parsed down pretty simply.
1.) Washington identified as and was identified by others as white.
2.) He may not have had entirely white or European ancestry.
3.) Those two answers aren't mutually exclusive.

It gave all three responses and parsed it in PC language. Probably as much because it couldn't judge the intent of the prompt as the fact that it's ultimately intended for commercial use.
There's nothing there that's remotely close to the historical failures we saw with the image generation. Assuming the part about possible non-euro ancestry is accurate, because I can't say George Washington is a topic I've ever spent much time on.


Edit: Although when I asked Gemini, it pretty categorically said his ancestry was entirely European.
