Gratefull Dead

I'm not like my little rainman neighbor 'seen em 52 times, yea 52' .
fucking bean counter.
saw them through the 70s and 80s.
in six different states and three countries.
hit and miss tbh, the vibe had to be there.
best show ever for me was the new years eve show
at the old Winterland in SF. so much acid.
but the Fillmore shows rocked too.

this one sneaks under the radar but showcases both musically
skill but Robert Hunter's genius lyric ability.

the grateful dead and jerry garcia specifically are one of the great gifts i have received in this life. i will be forever grateful for the life and consciousness changing music they produced over so many years.

the lyrics are high poetry and speak of the mundane all the way to the mystical and the improvisation is literally channeling god in the moment and turning it into sound. they do all of this while continuing to partake of and carry forward the american folk tradition and all of its inherent power, depth and meaning. the storytelling is also top notch art.

every time you look a little deeper with their music intent and lyrics etc new vistas open up. there is no bottom.

i love a lot of music but the dead are not in those categories at all. they are not the best at what they do-- they are the only ones who do what they do. they are on another level entirely. their music can produce genuine spiritual awakenings in people and that is no small feet.
