He needs to be drinking a non-alcoholic beer (little to no ethanol). Recently I discovered that there are actually quite a few on the market. Traditionally it was O'Doul's but nowadays Budweiser, Sam Adams, and Stella Artois all offer them.

3 lbs isn't much of a difference to make a difference except to make him look sloppy and cost him some dough.

If he wanted to fail on purpose could have gone for 5lb bigger or something slightly significant.
