let's look at the heavyweights for example, fedor vs cro cop in pride
their speed, strength and skill are still very impressive by today's standard. look at the constant aggression

comparing to ngannou vs gane

they look bigger physically yet their speed, precision, movements all seem inferior to those pride legends 20 years ago.

In the lower weight classes for sure.

That shit Pantoja was doing was fucking elite next level shit!

That is the highest level.

If we were talking 10 years ago theres not really a difference, but 20 years ago? absolutely.

It isnt just about comparing the elites like Fedor and Cro Cop, its about comparing the overall talent pool. What were the B, C, D level guys like in 2003 compared to today? what was the level of the smaller MMA promotions back then compared to today?

Look at Jones. When he first came into UFC, he had fluent movement & was pulling off moves others weren't at the time, so think things have progressed.

HW has always been shit.
20ish years ago you had Timmah and Mir.

The prelim bums are better these days than in the past but the top guys were way better in the past

Strickland, Blachowicz, Vettori, Colby, Smith etc (guys like these are champs/top 5 guys now) <6>

Absolutely it has.

In the early 2000's you could get by being a 1 dimensional fighter. Now? No chance in hell. And the striking game (I think) has drastically improved.

Yeah, its way better all across the board. If it wasnt it would be embarassing for everyone involved in the sport over the last 20 years.

This isn't boxing where 20 or 30 years ago it was the same level if not better.

Its a young sport and it truly peaked in the late 00s/early 2010s.

Overall yes and it's obvious if you have the slightest idea what you're looking at. Boxing fundamentals hardly existed in the 2000s, people got submitted far more often because the average BJJ level was lower, TDD was worse leading to more takedowns back then. The HW division peaked in PRIDE FC while LHW probably peaked in the early 2010s, but otherwise the average skill level is way higher now. Good luck getting by as a one dimensional specialist today, while back then it wasn't unusual.

Can you get paid to post the same lame threads every couple of weeks, from recent accounts?

I'm interested Sherdog.com. Half a buck per thread might suffice. DM me please
It really is fucking ridiculous. Over and over and over. The same threads.

These new kids desperately want to feel like they are seeing something new. Something that people that have been around for 20+ years have never seen before. That’s why they want to name a new GOAT anytime somebody wins a belt. They aren’t seeing anything new at all.

They are confusing the average mma fighter leveling up as something new. No.. it’s just that the hoi polloi are doing a little more what only the elite of 15-20 years ago did. They are becoming a little more rounded as a group. That isn’t evolution, though.

And just think.. We are on the holiday break again. We are going to get 3 straight weeks of this nonsense.

Looking at the way Fedor was moving forward, I think leg/oblique kicks, jabs and take down threats of modern MMA would make it very difficult for him to make his style effective.

The top guys have mostly been ahead of the curve so the difference in techniques and abilities can be minor. However, in general, yes MMA has evolved quite a bit.

This is how I kinda see it as well

There are waay more people practicing this stuff so the skills are spreading out better when it comes to the lower tier fighters

The top fighters of before packed the skills needed today
