HW MMA is pretty bad

Well it's a good thing Derrick Lewis is main eventing to correct the false narratives of HW's having no skill.
It’s funny that the more the sport grows the worst Heavyweights have become as a whole. Of course there are outliers but fuck PRIDE had superior heavyweights in the 90’s!

Most heavyweights are just unskillled, ignorant and stubborn to actually train MMA.

Because Pride HW’s fighters actually trained other aspects & not rely heavily on the ability to knock someone out, which isn’t even a skill at HW.

True, but they perform better being fat, where as in fighting there is no reason for 265 heavyweights with giant beer gut. They would be so much more effective at 240-250 and cardio would be better.

what? You think a lines man performs more than an mma fighter? Lol

every single one of them would gas within 2 mins in a cage

nfl athletes have shit tier cardio

The current HW era might not be all that great but this is a pretty massive exaggeration. More of todays top 10 would be top 10 in Pride (even at the HW divisions peak in the mid 00s) than vice versa.

You get what you pay for. And UFC pays peanuts, so this is the kind of HW athletes they get.
2023 and a talentless bum like Lewis headlining events...

Its always been pretty bad unless its a top 5 guy, HW MMA fights are just fatass obese dudes either KOing each other or they go to decision for a boring fight. Most of them have 1 round of good cardio at best.

Its not entertaining. I want to see some degree of athleticism. These are "professional" athletes

Big generalization there ah no more like UFC has a crap HW division which is ironic considering how all I ever hear is how evolved they are and the fighters from 20 years ago would stand no chance.

Pride HW division from 2004 were filled with very scary individuals and they weren't out of shape fat asses at all.

You get what you pay for. And UFC pays peanuts, so this is the kind of HW athletes they get.

Rugby pays less and is one of the premium destinations for athletic HWs. Tyson Fury makes tens of millions per fight while looking like a half squeezed tube of toothpaste. People get nostalgic over the Pride HW division when those guys were making a fraction of what the current guys get.

Its not just about money.

Heavyweight boxing is pretty much the same deal. Since the 70s, the standard of heavyweight boxing through every decade has dipped and the talent pool has certainly shrunk.

He meant that offensive linemen performs better in the NFL when weighing more.

Offensive linemen needs to be fat because they need to stop 250-300 lbs men running full speed at you. They may be fat but they're still strong as fuck and most of them pretty damn nimble for their size.

UFC mainly gets D level athletes at HW… what more would we expect?
Exactly this. They don't want the best fighters in the world, they just want the illusion of it, since they won't ever pay them what they really worth. Ngannou bless.

Anyway most of the big athletes who would be HWs are going to other sports making millions compared to the peanuts they get in the UFC. Hell they got guys who got a $75 million signing bonus in the NFL, while UFC giving out 20k/20k. Why the fuck would anyone go to the UFC if they could make it elsewhere? Even the league minimum in the NFL is like half a million. Hell even practice squad players make 12,000$ per week for 18 weeks.

The entire NFL has less than 2000 people in it, a lot of them not actually HW sized, and almost entirely from one country.

UFC HW division has always been shit.

jMMA always had all the stars.

They really made the HWs appear larger than life in Japan.

The UFC really sucks at building stars. The UFC sucks even more at the way they treat their stars.

Most UFC HW Champions left the UFC for Japan or other orgs. From the likes of Mark Coleman, all the way up to Arlovski, Tim Sylvia... and now Ngannou.

Back then there were only 3 divisions and they barely cut any weight. Wand was the LHW champ and he was 5'11'', he looked like welterweights look these days. Fedor was the champ and only 6 feet tall, looks more like an 185er or 205er at least. HW was 3 divisions packed in one back then.

Honestly, MW up is pretty shallow and loaded with mid-tier to subpar fighters.
