This is how he did it:

Here is the guy's wiki:

Got 7th place in 2012 Olympics after all.

Considered MMA in 2013, but brain damage danger made him concerned:

This is who he is now - a real estate agent and wrestling coach (of course):

BONUS: Here's Askren mopping the floor with him when they both were undefeated wrestling prodigies.

And Sonnen?

Hopefully he had a successful career. If not ... missed opportunity to see if he could have transitioned into an MMA fighter.

A strong wrestling background is always a great start. Look how far Ben Askren got with just that alone.

Yeah, if you can make a solid living based on your goals and not get punched and kicked in the head doing it, you probably should do it.

I like the idea of walking into an open house and there’s some MMA fighter there to greet you with a plate of cookies.

Well, he specifically is an Olympian wrestler.
Which is also nice.

Its a good gig for fighters with some name value who are past their prime and didn’t earn enough to retire. Same with selling cars. Who wouldn’t want to talk mma and get a pic with the smashing machine after buying a new ride?

Smashing Machine and Raging Al and Da Gangsta definitely have fame advantage, but it wouldn't necessarily lead to buying...

That’s somewhat true, but there’s a reason they are able to hold down those kinds of jobs. Their name value helps them in comparison to a regular dude off the street that’s selling houses and cars.

Its amazing how far Askren came with his wrestling. A real legend.

Not a bad decision tbh. Mma is a huge gamble. Only the top guys make anything and everyone is getting brain damage.

It probably wouldn't help with real estate but I can see it being an advantage with cars because you can get the same cars off different lots, with a house they are all different.

5’2 Derron Winn blew out Usman in wrestling and perused MMA.

Interesting. But tbf, the videos are apples to oranges. You have Askren beating Herbert in folkstyle wrestling, then Herbert beating Usman in freestyle like 6 years later. Very different rules.
