This is only possible due to an update in the contract that the UFC were forced to add after getting sued by Cung Le.

There was one noticeable change during this period, which was made to the provision commonly called the champion’s clause. This was done right around the filing of the Le et al v Zuffa, LLC complaint. Between 2011 and 2014 the champion’s clause read that it ended on “the later of (i) one (1) year from the Termination Date; or (ii) the date on which Fighter has participated in three (3) bouts” but since 2014 it has read that it ended on the “earlier” of those two possibilities.

Yes, December 2022 would be the end of his contract. This is why Dana didn't do the press conference or put the belt around Ngannou. They are fucked, in terms of negotiating. Either the UFC will have to penny up or let their champion go.

Rogan asking Ngannou where he will go next post fight was a UFC tactic to get a sense of what he was thinking. Didn't really work, Francis is doing him and it looks like he will be waiting his contract out. Rightfully so.

The tides are changing boys and girls, the UFC's bull shit Champion Clause and holding fighters hostage is coming to an end. They will be paying fighters more or letting them go, who they built up, to other promos who will pay more.

Yep, paying a UFC HW champ 600k (plusppv) kinda backed themselves into a corner....Dana will have to soon announce another "interim" HW title fight.

I was wondering about that....The UFC usually has these iron clad contracts making the fighters under contract for 40 yrs....aka GSP

Ever since the law suits, they changed their standard contracts. Before, a champ could in theory be under UFC contract in perpetuity. But now, there's a sunset clause for every fighter. Not only champs. The sunset clause is 4 or 5 years. Meaning there is a definitive end date, regardless of offering fights or w.e. else.

The funny thing about these changes is that in spite of winning that 2017 law suit, they changed their contract terms. So, they knew this would be an issue.

Honestly Francis is a bad case of where ya gonna go? Bellator more than likely can’t afford his price tag same with the PFL. Chatri would need another 17 rounds of investors, and boxing is gonna be a one off at best and after last night I don’t see his boxing offer being too lucrative.

Well thats' just it, if he manages to get a fight with Tyson Fury he would likely end up like TW but for a bigger paycheck....all depends on how much his pride is worth I guess.

If Francis can get a fight with either AJ, Fury, or Wilder.. then he will probably make a minimum of 10m.

Otherwise, even a top 5 fight against Dillian Whyte, Joseph Parker, or maybe Andy Ruiz could get him a few million.

You really think that’s gonna happen? Tyson tried to fight Usyk and got caught in all type of legal troubles and was pretty much ordered to fight Deontay. There will be so much bullshit if he tries to box Francis and after last night performance you can’t help but think both guys stock is down. The commentary team can fawn over Francis wrestling but it’s because that fight was pretty bad and they had nothing else to talk about. Francis didn’t have some crazy impressive performance. The right hand was damn near a non factor. His hands in general were a non factor.

Fun fact, Dempsey took three years off between his fights with Firpo and Tunney.

Thnx cung lee, fuck the ufc and its unethical borderline slave pay.
When did slaves, under the advice of their own management, start signing contracts with their owners?
And when did they start receiving base compensation in the high six figures?

Hopefully you don't shop at Wal-Mart. Have you ever seen what that family's net worth is compared to
their employees, cough, slaves?

Well when put into proper context and compared to others sports, what ufc pays is unethical, can't defend that. End of story bro

OK, let's put it into the "proper context" then and compare UFC pay with sports like Boxing, Jiu Jitsu
and Bare knuckle boxing? How about golf, what's the 300th ranked player on the PGA tour make?

The UFC is not comparable to organizations NBA, NFL and MLB. Those are sports with teams that
play 17 to 162 games a season and regularly sell out stadiums that hold 50,000 fans.

And, what exactly is the ethical amount to pay a person to fist fight in a cage for 15 minutes?

I’m glad that article is getting traction. It should be stickied.

Thanks TS.

You mean after Randy (Almost twice, but he lost against Overeem's less famous brother), Bustamante, Jens and BJ Penn out of the top of my mind...
Hehe.

Ya, it should be pointed out that UFC strengthened their contracts and added the Champions Clause in 2003 or so, after Penn beat Hughes, asked to fight at ROTR, was denied, and did it anyway.

Yup. A U.S. court agreed that UFC contracts were essentially indentured servitude and forced them to change 'em. All the while, shills on here continue to defend the UFC's corrupt tactics.
