Hey guys, long time since I last posted but I trust that Sherdog will provide great advice.

I'm about to head out Hawaii. You need to have a negative covid test in order to skip quarantine.
The place I went to is not recognized. So I will have to quarantine during my stay.

The airline told me that the authorities in Hawaii will come check if you are actually quarantining.
Is that a bluff, or will they?

Anyone Sherdoggers from Hawaii in here or people who recently visited? I'm looking for some advice because I don't want to ruin my vacation but also not pay a 5k fine.

If they knock on your hotel room door and you don't answer are they going to just open up your door or smash it in? Just wondering how they can "check on you."

Apparently, hotels provide info to the police and people are checked for covid tests outside. I tested negative but they don't recognize the agency that tested me.
Imagine police actually aprehending you and dragging you to your hotel for being outside, covid clean. That is some Draconian shit.

Do you guys know if they actually enforce this seriously?

We've missed you so much. Have a safe trip.

You should definitely pull the race card.

Also, tell them how the mainland is much better

Nobodies checking Jack Shit, fuck the test, get on with your life..

i'm in oahu

hotel staff will monitor the quarantined people. if they leave, they will notify the cops, and they will be on the look out. cops may call you once a day or multiple times a day to check up on you. locals also know who the vacationers are, so if you do anything stupid (habitually not where your mask, not following social distancing guideline, act a fool, etc), they will call the cops on you. cops are constantly looking at social media for non-locals/vacationers that violated quarantine, so if you post shit on IG of you on the beach or getting drunk at the bar, they will see it and it may catch up to you. you might not believe me, but it happened to plenty of people and was on the local news. violating quarantine is a misdemeanor and can be jail time, a fine, or both.

Which island are you going to? Wasn't vacation but I went to the big island in Oct for a hospice situation in the family and we quarantined at a relative's house. You have to attest on email every day that you're quarantining at the specified location and I got maybe 5 or 6 calls at random times during the 14 days where they ask where you're at.

While there, I heard that Oahu is more strict with the check ins and may actually check in person. The locals will also rat you out if you're being a conspicuous tourist. If you're staying at a hotel and not at a family or friend's house (or even if you are), I'd plan on spending my time there and being very selective about breaking quarantine if at all.

So I am getting screwed royally. I tested negative literally today but they won't recognize it.
I doubt staff care enough to actually proactively rat you out to the police.

lol-did you not see my post? the staff will rat you out. our covid numbers are minute compared to the mainland and we want to keep it that way. if you cant follow the rules, then cancel your trip

Sounds like you failed to do basic research. All you needed to do was figure out which tester was recognized and get tested there before leaving. Impulse vacations are great and all, but you need to do a minimum of planning. You screwed yourself.
