Yea, it's fucked up. But if you want to figure certain things out, there's no other way around it (that we know of). Without testing on living organisms, you can't draw reliable conclusions from your tests.

It's one of those things that we should be sorry for having to have to do, and, without question, not get carried away with.

There are people who will readily do the most twisted of experiments if they were given the go ahead to. Just look at some of the wartime stories.
