Using strictly geographical terms is a PC censorship thing in the UK. Yes it's in widespread usage but people also realize how clumsy it is and Britains 1984-esque speech laws regarding race in the media are a contributing factor.

IE they will get offended if you call Amir Khan anything other than "British" even though he himself identifies as Pakistani and Muslim, takes pilgrimage to Mecca and wanted to represent Pakistan in the olympics. They will get offended on his behalf. If you were daring you would call him "Asian British" and a whole plethora of other nonsense before you actually said what he is. A game of fear. You also don't refer to Slavs as "Asians" even if they are from that continent.

Exactly, in the UK Asian is used to refer to people from South Asia, ie India, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc.

In the US and other parts of the world Asian obviously refers to East and South East Asians.

In other words in the UK Aziz Ansari, Russell Peters would be considered Asian
