Social South Korean Birthrate: Pet strollers surpass baby strollers

so what's the answer to that? shame people into having children? that's not happening.

Give more money to and make housing/goods cheaper for people with children.

Tax dog ownership and subsidise families.

If you have to, use the power of the state to seize properties and give them to aspiring families. Get rid of landlordism and people being rewarded for not working and reward workers, family makers.

most of these cannot happen in a democracy

most of these cannot happen in a democracy

A few years ago, the government shut our countries down for 2 years over a virus that didn’t even kill 1% of the population. That wasn’t democratic, was it?

Korea’s birthrate is so low that it will will be losing the equivalent of 1% of their population every single year.

You either want to prioritize the population and the birth rate or you don’t.

As of now, the country is already paying retired baby boomers billions every year in pensions … it’s unsustainable.

you're not going to legislate your way out of a demographic problem.
i can't tell you one case where that worked.
that's why countries like germany are desperate to bring in al sorts of third world trash in the country to supposedly bridge that gap, while not realising they're only bringing in more problems and more costs to the budget.

maybe we're bloated. maybe germany isn't supposed to be 80 million people big, more like 50 million. maybe france needs to be 40. maybe britain needs to be 30. maybe china needs to be 700 million.

the reason we're so bloated is because for the last hundred years we have grown our population like we're a workforce cattle, not like we're a culture growing organically. bringing in millions of trash from third world countries won't help one bit the culture, only the workforce, if that, given most that come have no skills outside being creepy and dangerous to local women.

The birth rate of South Korea is existentially low. A bigger threat than COVID ever was.

Mass migration of third world immigrants into the west has always been unpopular, but the government did it anyway … there is that good ol’ “democracy” for you

For me, the issue with South Korea is mostly cultural. Lack of willpower and priorities. It’s sad to see.

So many questions.

Are people buying multiple strollers for multiple pets? It's not pets or baby you can have both.

What kind of dogs do these people have that fit in a stroller? Maybe there are even more big dogs that cannot fit in a stroller and thus there is an even greater pet to stroller ratio than indicated in the data set.

On the other hand, it says the data came from "Gmarket, an e-commerce platform operator." What if Gmarket is not an accurate representation of South Korean purchasing trends. Maybe people are buying baby strollers from other platforms, in brick and morter stores, or the second hand market? None of that data would be captured.

South Korea is highly urbanized right? Maybe people think it's easier to use a baby carrier rather than a stroller through city streets.

Overall we have limited information and can't read too much into the headline.

Korean birthrate is lower than Japan's.

To the rest of the world, it's a pet stroller.

To asians, it's a shopping cart. Nom nom, desu...sumnida.

SK is supposed to put an end to that by 2027. In the meantime, maybe more strollers are being sold so they can wheel their meal home quicker.

this is only true in a society where all old people are absolute wrecks.
most old people i know and knew are just fine on their own, even in their late 80, some in their nineties.
you're not going to have 50% of the population needing intense care, jesus.
No that's only part of the problem, pensions and the economy are based on the next generation coming through and propping up the house of cards.

If the next generation is half the size then those numbers aren't gonna work out.

The situation is pretty dire in SK... if the current trend doesn't improve there will be only 6 great grandchildren for every 100 great grandparents.

People should reel back their praise for how these Asian countries' populations "dealt with covid". Having lived there, these populations live like insects. They don't have much independence especially in terms of thought and behaviour. They've been conditioned to be treated like worker bees hence the ridiculous suicide levels. Their "covid response" was not admirable, it was a warning. A warning to how little independence you can have if you're groomed to have none.

Great crime ratings. Great. Because when you over punish low level crime, it stops. Brilliant as a visitor. Safe as fuck. Not so great as a local when so much as protesting government overreach jails you and wrecks your life. The government decides what a crime is.

And this entered the west during covid. People fined heavily for meeting friends outdoors etc.

None of which was actual law. Hence most UK victims are being reimbursed as such

That's how powerful they can be. A glimpse into rhe future through a dry run.

When you live on a farm, kids make life easier. When you live in a city, kids make life more difficult.

As populations move more and more away from farms and into cities, birthrate drops.

Never heard this take but makes sense

Usually all I hear the the intelligent have less kids and the idiots who shouldnt be allowed to bred shit out the most.
