Strange to hear so many people say Khamzat doesn't deserve to fight someone the caliber of Strickland when he would be a favorite over him.

No clue how anyone could say Khamzat is more skilled at striking than Strickland. That's just retarded

I think it comes down to Strickland having to weather the storm early. Khamzat will get the takedown. He will have Strickland on his back for most of the first round I think. The question becomes if he can do enough damage and get a sub or tko. If not, Strickland can definitely make it a closer fight after the second round, and by the 5th round I would expect Khamzat to be pretty gassed.

But I think Khamzat gets it done early. He knows he need the early finish to win, so he'll go for broke trying to get it, and I think he will.

Main strengths of Strickland are his cardio, as he can strike for 25 mins without slowing down, and his ability to point strike while moving forward. If Chimaev makes it a wrestling fight, Strickland will not have the same cardio as if it was a 25min striking exchange while he might have to fight with a lower stance and on the back foot
Last time he fought a grappler he won only a split decision to Hermansson and avoided the other MW grapplers
Strickland's main path to victory might be to trash talk Chimaev into striking where his distance management is weaker than Strickland, and Strickland could make it a boxing fight

Khamzat should do what he always does - chase that round 1 finish. It is his best bet anyway. I doubt Sean would survive that first round like Usman did. If it goes past the second, it will be a tought night for him, but I don’t see it happening.

Sure he slowed down there a bit but not enough for me to label it as bad cardio altogether, 3rd round afaik he was more active again, and it’s not like it’s Conor levels of cardio dropoff

but then again, time will tell, I just don’t see what Strickland has for him. He’ll get Khabib’d
