I definitely agree. Power can be the equalizer for a deficit of skills. This has always been the case whether it's in boxing or MMA.

On that very note, a lot of heavyweight combat athletes have very average defense in comparison to the lighter weight classes. Some of these guys have made it to the top because of their size and power.

MMA is a fringe sport with a petty fan base. Boxing represents more lucrative opportunities for it’s athletes and is a more popular. MMA fans are not open-minded enough to give Boxing a chance because it’s the better sport.

Boxing is old, obsolete and clearly inferior to MMA which is a real fight.

Boxing is dying they are so desperate putting MMA guys to fight their declining sport, Boxing has no more stars Fury is so boring the other guy who will face Fury after Ngannou no one cares.

In 2070 Boxing will officially be dead.

I am hearing a lot of talk about how sweet science is a bunch of BS, and boxers are overrated. Ngannou's great performance yesterday against the best heavyweight in the world was very impressive, but it can only happen in the Heavyweight Division. The absolutely freakish power and strength of Ngannou were enough to scare Fury to the point he was hesitant to let his hands go. He normally intimidates and ragdolls guys in the clinch but Ngannou was too strong for that. Imagine Volkanovski verse Crawford, it would be an absolute blood bath. The speed and skill difference would be frightening. Canelo versus Leon Edwards would be just as bad. If this fight opens the door for more cross MMA vs Boxing matches don't expect similar results.
Part of me does want to see O'Malley vs Tank (Sean called him out after the Alho fight IIRC). I can't stand either one of them as people, but the violent striking lesson Tank would unleash on O'Malley would be a sight to behold.

Do we now consider Francis Ngannou the Lineal Boxing Heavyweight Champion of the World AND Lineal Heavyweight MMA Champion of the world?

And if we do…

Is he now the greatest combat sport athlete of all time?

Completely concur.

Heavyweights have always been pieces-of-shit compared to fighters in smaller weight divisions.

For example, to sober everybody up, what 6' 9", 265-lb man could be a gymnast ?<45>

Huge men may have power, but they lack overall athlesicism.

In the lighter divisions, there is so much more reliance on skill, speed, stamina.

While Francis doesnt even have a scratch

Reminds me of GSP after he "won" the fight vs Hendricks... I guess Francis does hit like a Ford Escort after all

Ridiculous. How do you win a fight you never hurt an opponent and you get stunned multiple times and even dropped?

You probably scored the Jones fight for Gane as well.
Nothing I could possibly come up can match this post.
This is a truly mic drop moment.
I live for quick retorts and snappy sarcasm.
You sir, deserve applause.

I get what you're saying, but I don't think that's a fair criticism until you see him fail to grow from this. His tentativeness seems like the most natural thing in the world to me.
Hey I hope you're right. We'll see a different Ngannou next time if you are.

Well, this fight was two has-beens, like this:

But none of those are anything next to Ngannou beating the best HW boxer of this generation.

"Has been ?". Tim Sylvia had been the UFC heavyweight champion just two years before his fight with Mercer. Mercer on the other hand had last been a Boxing champion 20 YEARS AGO. He took out Sylvia in 9 seconds in the Octagon.

People that don't even watch boxing know it's the most corrupt sport in the world.

And other than like 10 fights a year, it's painfully boring

So... it is important to win top fights?
