It makes a ton of sense, they both get the same amount of training time, the casuals will be aware of the Challenger if they watch.

Is there even a single drawback?

I wish it was more common.

Yup. Immediate intruige to the next fight, and if the challenger gets hurt, the replacement is already in camp. Then have a prelim guy be of the same weight class to give to the other guy.
