You often find a similar refrain in US media reporting of the cost of two decades of the so-called ‘War on Terror.’ The trope goes something like this: “more than 7,000 US service people have died in wars since 9/11,” an article or news report will say. In the next line it will usually, though not always, try to reflect the civilian toll – but almost exclusively in generalities. Tens, or even hundreds, of thousands.

Ahead of the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist atrocities, and the subsequent launch of the War on Terror, Airwars has been seeking the answer to one important question – how many civilians have US strikes likely killed in the ‘Forever Wars’?

We found that the US has declared at least 91,340 strikes across seven major conflict zones.

Our research has concluded that at least 22,679, and potentially as many as 48,308 civilians, have been likely killed by US strikes.

The gap between these two figures reflects the many unknowns when it comes to civilian harm in war. Belligerents rarely track the effects of their own actions – and even then do so poorly. It is left to local communities, civil society and international agencies to count the costs. Multiple sources can however suggest different numbers of fatalities, meaning that monitoring organisations like Airwars will record both minimum and maximum estimates.

Up to 48k killed so the true number is probably around 30-40k civilians killed!

"But but we're the good guys!!! But but they killed 2,977 Americans on 9/11!!!"

I know people are gonna say that the airstrikes probably saved more lives than having troops go in or some shit like that....or they are gonna say it's the "terrorist/Insurgents" fault for being in the city next to people's houses.

Look perhaps that's the case, idk, can anybody justify this?

One thing is for sure, this crap surely created a lot of resentment/hate for America.

The age old human doctrine of "shit happens"...the world is a messy place.

In short, no I dont believe it can be justified. Bush and Obama got away with so much collateral killing that we would easily accost other nations for doing.
If you're looking for actual equality or fairness, better to spend your time looking elsewhere in the multiverse.

Terrible strategy and lost whatever legitimacy and good will we had trying to build liberal democracies. Now I'm not convinced you can force feed democracy on people in the first place, but all we did with these killing sprees is empower extremists. Just the opposite of stated objective because it's safer to be in a tunnel with Taliban than farming your field.

Trump was pretty much a pacifist compared to Drone dropping Obama. Trump also went all in on using our own oil.

Biden ruined that.

Checkout 2017 on the graph on the OP.....Trump went on a killing spree in 2017 in Syria, it rivaled Iraq numbers and he destroyed Obama's numbers......So yeah Trump ain't a pacifist, he's the same like Obama/Bush.

Accountability is sopposed to be a strength of democracy. Im looking for people to start holding congress accountable for not holding administrations accountable.

Well, ideally. But im well aware most americans only care about gas prices or tax

I mean, we are fighting for our freedom, so yes it's justified.

/End sarcasm. Fuck the military industrial complex, the military, and everyone who supports them.

Well. You kill one of us, we kill ten of you?
At least we spread it out over 20 years.

Nope. Be grateful your on the side of those doing the bombings and not vise versa. If you can't handle that idea then you should focus your attention elsewhere cause it won't change.

So we're supposed to just say fuck our family members in the military?
Crawl back under your rock kid.
