Weili Did Not Earn Or Deserve Her First Title Shot And Tonights Result Should Not Be Shocking

Weili received her title shot three wins (one finish) into her UFC career when she was ranked #6. Two of those first three opponents no longer fight in the UFC and the other is currently ranked #9 (Tecia Torres)

That title shot took place in China, her home country, and was on relatively short notice for Jessica Andrade. Could the conditions have been any more favorable for the challenger?

Her first title defense ended up being an intense back and forth in which she ultimately prevailed so most fans forgot this was a fighter who had a very easy road to the top.

No one should be surprised that Rose, who has defeated every champion in the history of the SW division, with the exception of Carla Esparza was able to easily defeat a fighter who never truly earned their title shot to begin with.

Xiaonan Yan (#3) who is also from China and debuted nearly a year earlier than Weili should have been given that title shot if they needed a Chinese SW. She had more wins and fights in the UFC than Weili when that title fight took place. Since then Yan remains undefeated in the UFC and still has more wins and fights under the UFC banner than Weili.

Instead of fighting for the title next, on a six fight win streak (longest in the division), she is fighting Carla Esparza who she is ranked higher than. Perhaps Yan keeps getting pushed to the side because Weili, Carla, and Rose all have the same manager?

Looking forward to Yan methodically taking the title from Rose, if she ever gets the chance.

She beat 2 champs in a row you moron. Your Yellow card is deserved.

To be fair Joanna was 2-3 going into that fight... hardly championship caliber anymore.

It’s clear that ESPN was trying to get into that Chinese market by any means necessary.

Doesn't matter, be it Weili or Xiaonan, Rose is going to beat both of em and denied Dana of ever getting that CCP money.

At the time Zhang was booked to fight Andrade:
-Andrade had just beaten #1 Rose.
-#2 Suarez was injured.
-#3 Ansaroff was beaten by Suarez less than a week before the announcement.
-#4 Joanna had lost to Rose twice and was coming off a loss to Valentina.
-#5 Gadelha had just rebounded against #14 Markos after losing to #3 Ansaroff
-#6 Zhang was on a 19 fight win streak, 3-0 in the UFC and coming off a win over #8 Torres

Some questions to ask yourself:
-Should #1 Rose have gotten an instant rematch?
-Should #2 Saurez have been forced to fight injured?
-Should #3 Nina get a shot off a loss?
-Should #4 Joanna find herself in ANOTHER title fight when she fought and lost in 3 of them in her lost 4 fights?
-Should #5 Claudia get a title shot with her 1 fight win streak over #14, when Zhang's last win was #8?

I'd like to hear your answer.

well, they're going to have to hunt for divisions now; 2020+ Thug Rose is goat material

I heard dana white is considering giving Zhang a rematch, and she's going to get embarrassed again.

She knocked out the champ in the first round. And then successfully defended against the greatest fighter ever in the division.

@UFCIsNOTRigged

Thus post is stupid. Weili was the only one available at the time

Andrade was the Champ
#1 Rose wasn’t sure if she would return to fighting
#2 Joanna was already booked to fight Michelle
#3 Tatiana Suarez had a neck injury
#4 Nina Nunes was trying to get pregnant
#5 Claudia was injured

And #6 was Weili

What about the other Chinese fighter who had more UFC fights and wins than Weili; and remains undefeated in the UFC to this day?

The one with the longest winning streak in the division.

Your post is the stupid one.

Weili said she wanted to be friends after the fight, we need a Mortal Kombat friendship shop here

None of that mattered once she beat Andrade. You beat the champ then you deserve to be where you are.

Yan wasn’t ranked in the top ten at the time.

Does it really matter? Weili beat Tecia Torres (#7 at the time), so she earns a title shot off of that? The other two opponents are no longer UFC fighters and were unranked.

Whereas Yan Xiaonan had four UFC wins, but because she wasn't given the opportunity to fight a top 10 fighter it meant she should be passed up due to being ranked a few spots lower?

Weili had a good manager so she got an opportunity she did not deserve, plain and simple.

Being given a title shot off of 3 wins (with one finish and against one ranked opponent) in your home country, against a champion three months removed from winning their title seem like favorable conditions in which most highly skilled fighters would be able to prevail.

Yan wasn't ranked at all. She had just beaten Angela Hill, who wasn't doing much at the time.

You said Zhang didn't deserve her shot against Andrade.
Yan wasn't even ranked when they announced Andrade vs Weili.

How dumb are you, exactly? Can it even be quantified?

Going back and forth with J-check for 5 rounds in best WMMA fight of all time silenced any doubt.
