What is the purpose of the UFC announcing fights before they're official?

Paulo Costa and Aljamain Sterling have both come out recently and said that they DO NOT have confirmed fights.

Why does the UFC keep doing this?

it's a game of faking numbers from PPV to "views" to "re-tweets"

To pressure the fighter into accepting the fight.

Most top ten fighters usually try to choose their opponents carefully.

This contributes to an underlying difficulty in booking fights. It's not always easy to book a fight.

When you get close, it probably helps to "pre-advertise" the booking. If SM blows up over a potential booking, that's one more incentive for a reluctant fighter to sign the contract.

Seems like normal biz if you ask me.

One of five reasons

1) Sometimes fights get leaked before they are official and they want to get ahead of it
2) They want/or need to market the event but negations are taking longer than expected
3) In certain cases they have verbal agreements in place and just hammering details on paperwork
4) Trying to pressure fighters into taking a certain fight
5) Some kind of miscommunication between fighters and promotion

trying to strongarm the fighters o that Dana can slag them off saying that "they don't want to fight"

It's called lying and Goofopotomus is a champion at it.

The purpose is to cheat and steal any they can.

In this particular instance, I think Dana just arranged these announcements hastily to try and steal the spotlight from Big Frank's PFL signing.

Yep..

"This clown is turning down the fight because he's scared"

And the 30/30 offer had nothing to do with it..
Signs contract for 30/30, offered a fight by the UFC. Turns down fight because of said contract that signed beforehand. Next time don't sign the contract then it's that simple.

Not much competition, fighters don't have much choice.. But at the higher levels these guys are always trying to re-work a deal for certain fights that are going to be larger on PPV.. Years ago the UFC never allowed it.. Now it is sometimes flexible depending on who you are..

Dustin for example def got more for Conor in fights 2 and 3 than on his normal deal..

This, pretty much.

Not much competition? You see UFC fight out their contracts constantly and go to other orgs to make "bank." Allegedly. But fighting out your obligated contract is the first step into achieving that.Example If Diaz quit bitching for years about whatever, he could have fought out his contract years ago and been doing these circus boxing bouts fot a while. Ngannou just fought out his contract and is allegedly making millions with PFL.

Dustin had the right to, he was fighting the biggest star in MMA & a star around the sports world.

Costa is offered against who?
Aljamain Sterling is offered a bout against O'Malley, who we still don't if he can even pull numbers. But Aljamain atleast has leverage to re negotiate. Costa not so much.

Insult and degrade fighters for not allowing Pinky to lowball their earnings.
Combine these posts, and you have the answer. It is a tactic for trying to shame them into accepting the terms of Dana's rip-off deals. Going public with it puts pressure on the fighters because they look like quitters if it is announced and then they pull out.

Basically one of the pink man's signature shady low-life moves

To pressure fighters to take the fight and to get casual fans hyped to go buy tickets.

It's probably to pressure fighters into making a commitment.

It's like a guy announcing to everyone that he's going to get married ... before the woman even says "yes".

Other people might pressure her into marrying.

They have done it for as long as I can remember, and it's shady as fuck. You always hear about fighters learning about their own fights on Twitter and shit.
