Fuck yeah, Gilliam. Even as Brazil is totally fucking impossible to understand without watching it at least twice, it was bloody awesome. And Time Bandits--brilliant. Not to mention all the rest, obviously.
Super creative oddball, very unique stuff.

Gilliam is kind of like Wes Anderson or Tim Burton...quite good at what he is good at. I really didn't like Jabberwocky or Zero Theorem though.

Jabberwocky starts out splendidly but peters out like you wouldn't believe when he ventures off to the castle. I would have cut the next hour of the film entirely and went in another direction.

James Cameron (excluding the new Avatar)
Danny Boyle
Guy Ritchie
Stanley Kubrick

Early Guy Ritchie is pretty impressive imo.. kind of like a Brit QT. He’s had some clunkers tho, but the work of his that I like I really like quite a bit.

Lock Stock and Snatch are fantastic films.

Id swap out Costner for Batfleck

Yeah Ben has really made something of himself behind the camera. He really just started directing because he couldn't get cast in any good roles after all the Bennifer spectacle and Gigli. He really knows what he's doing though.

Some other actors have directed some really great movies as well...but then stop. Billy Bob Thornton and Sling Blade. Danny De Vito and Hoffa. Sean Penn and The Pledge. If you count Rob Reiner and Ron Howard as actors they would be way up there but both kind of bailed on acting...as did Penny Marshall and Paul Michael Glaser.

On the other hand James Cameron was ready to play a lead role in a movie written by Rob Lowe but it never got made.

Plus his pen game is Oscar level. Affleck has 2 Oscars. But still super underrated guy, don’t know why he gets so much hate. The Town is one of my favourite movies

He put it pretty well about what things were like in that Bennifer era. He was "famous for being an asshole" but couldn't actually get work so it was the worst of both worlds. He spent the first ten years or so after Good Will Hunting with everyone assuming that Matt Damon was the genius and Ben was the hanger on and it took him getting behind the camera to begin to shake that. He also tended to pick really stupid blockbusters - Pearl Harbor, Daredevil, Armageddon - as his big projects with the fame that came from Good Will Hunting and that didn't help.

And now he’s come full circle. Can’t say I blame him, bet the pussy is magical lol

Prime Spielberg is hard to beat. Recent Spielberg is extremely meh though.

Stanley Kubrick (2001, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, Dr Strangelove, Eyes Wide Shut)

Francis Ford Coppola (Godfather trilogy, Apocalypse Now, Dracula)

Martin Scorsese (Casino, Taxi Driver, The Departed, Goodfellas, Gangs of New York, Raging Bull)

Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator)
