You're mixing up the fights. He lost the 1st round on all 3 cards and got knocked clean out in the 2nd round. The one he won, which was the year before, was the come from behind fight where he was down 3-1 going into the last round.

There are plenty of fighters who didn't get knocked clean out this year and win a split decision over a 40 year old.
