Why do people say The Beatles were overrated?

They were great, just not as great as the Stones.

Lol, come on man.. <45>

Mick knows..

Love me some Stones though (65-74).

They are obviously very good and were revolutionary for their time. But many people tend to say that each member of the band is the second coming of Christ and their music is perfect up to the last note and plays before the gate of heaven, which is of course bullshit.

What, even Ringo?{<huh}

They wrote some great songs. Combined they aren’t fucking Dylan. As far as influential they are at the top

I don’t think they’re overrated, I’m just not really a fan. But their impact on rock n roll and popular music in general is pretty fucking massive. They’ve written some of the best songs of all time. If you listed the Top 5 songs in popular music history, the Beatles would probably appear 2 or 3 times.

It's just down to taste really. I find them mostly good but a bit hit and miss. I absolutely despise Sgt Peppers.

But basically if everyone listened to the musical canon they'd find a shitload of stuff that's not for them.

I hear this said A LOT. I know that taste is subjective, but I see it said very often.

J/w if someone can explain why they think that. I think they have some pretty good songs.

because I fucking hate them
also, The Monkeys were a huge influence on the Beatles

Because when you're rated so highly above everyone else, it's inevitable that your outlying detractors who don't like you will receive that acclaim bitterly.

Well they are considered the greatest musical artists ever. So I can see why people would say that. There just so high up on the pedestal for many. That there will be obvious haters. It just comes with the territory.

This pretty much answers it. Nirvana has a similar thing going, very important band that’s dead lead singer is considered one of the best writers of all time.. that’s gonna get under a lot of microscopes looking for any imperfections or threads to tug on to unravel the opinion.

Is what it is. The most loved, are typically the most hated

I was never a huge fan. They're okay imo.. and they deserve a lot of praise.... But I've always thought the Stones were better up to 1970.

Because they suck ass. No talent product of sheep population

That's not counting hits so big they've become cultural landmarks by them as solo artists like "Imagine" or "Across the Universe" by John Lennon, "My Guitar Gently Weeps" by George Harrison, or "Maybe I'm Amazed", "Band on the Run", and "Live and Let Die" (for the Bond film) by Paul McCartney.

Probably because they are treated like Gods when it's just pop music.

They were right place, right time and the right combination of talent. The stars just happened to align. I guess I would say I'm a big Beatles fan in that I have all of their albums and find almost everything they do interesting. I can still understand the criticism though but mostly just because they get overhyped by the fanatics.

I will say, Let It Be just got remastered and honestly, I don't think it's a very good album. I'd probably go 7/10 which is still solid but there's a lot of filler and/or average songs on there.

Let it be is pretty shit if we're being honest. Still that was a band at the end of their cycle, so I'll let them off.
