I believe TikTok is what kick started all of this self censoring people do these days.

It's possible. I don't use Tiktok, but I know certain YouTube channels I watch will specifically use grape and unalive with news stories because they said they will be demonetized for using the real word. I don't even see how that's even a bad word if you're just talking about a news event but YouTube is super hardcore with certain words and copyright videos/music too.

I turned off a video because (not the one above) because the narrator kept using the term.

He used Unalive instead of KILL for monetization purposes.
Youtubes bot thingy checks your thumbnails and videos for such words or other strong language, If your not cleaver about it, you could get demonetized (no money) or your videos will not reach all type of viewers.

On YT algorithms analyse the audio track of a video shortly after it's posted. If they detect "sensitive" words in the track the video will likely be demonetized, so video creators have gotten into the habit of using novel euphemisms if a sensitive topic comes up. Porn = corn, pedophile = PDF file, etc. A human knows what you mean but the robot checking the audio track for trigger words can't use that kind of inductive/deductive reasoning.

Monetizing thing. I think there is a system that flags your speech and video content. It is super sensitive and it will flag your video for saying eating disorder. Amount of curse words matter too
