Economy Workers at Tn VW plant vote to unionize. GOP politicians say they made a mistake

Their choice if they want to join a union.

However it's the plants choice if they want to move also.

Who gives a shit where the company is based? I care about where the workers are - the US.

You really don't know that union workers make more money and have more benefits than their non union counterparts?

Why does it upset and anger you when American workers are paid more?
Pay a little more and buy American products. You can buy all your stuff cheaper made in China because they treat their workers like soylent green.

It's the multinational corporation that will decide that. Buy American made cars and the worst they can do is pick another State.

Not sure what hot weather has to do with working in a car factory, but it isn't "muh big business against the working and middle class". The working and middle class are ones who get buttfucked when they just hike the cost of the cars to cover the added expense. Do you think car companies just decide "oh man, sucks for us", or do they increase the prices and just open the next plant somewhere else? Millionaires and billionaires don't drive Volkswagons, so this money comes from the people who do. Yeah, no shit the governor thinks it's a bad decision when the main attraction of opening an auto factory in his state is gone.

The UAW IS big business, and they don't even make anything. They have a billion dollars in assets and Shawn Fain is rich entirely from skimming off people's paychecks. He isn't negotiating for other people to help them out, he's doing it to get rich himself.

What lol, if only all companies knew that "just hike your prices" makes more money, they'd all be super rich!

Did you think there were a bunch of mom and pop car companies? The handful of car companies are only competing with each other, and they do increase prices quite a lot.

It appears they already do know "just hike your prices", because that's what they already do when their labor costs drastically increase. Even fast food is like double what it was just a few years ago. Why do you think so many companies outsource to China instead of paying 3x as much for lazier employees?

They don't pick where to open plants because they like the little sandwich shop on the corner, they pick places for the financial incentives, and when those go away, they just expand somewhere else or raise their prices to pay for the added cost.

Volkswagen works in many Western countries that have labour forces represented by unions.

I don't see any issue at all here.

This union won't be nearly as formidable as the representation in Germany, and VW haven't left Germany.

They work where they want to sell cars.

Weren't ALL VW plants Unionized except this one? For sure all the overseas ones are. Lol@Americans hating our own working class that they've gaslit themselves into thinking VW specifically pursues non-Unionized labor.

I'm pretty sure the Chinese factories that primarily produce for China aren't 'unionized' in the typical sense, but aside from that it's unlikely many countries are still ununionized.

It's a bit behind the times, to be honest.

Famously, Scandinavian countries are barren wastelands with no manufacturing or services because most of the workforce is unionized and McDonalds workers get in the 20 something per hour range for their wages.

See if you unionize and set wages really high, the job Gods will pull out of your country.

That is what happened in Scandinavia right..? I haven't checked in with them in a while

VW will likely pack up and go to china and the issue will be moot.
They have a factory here so that they can sell cars here, it's why all the big foreign manufacturers have factories here. It is politically untenable for foreign brands that sell large volume of vehicles to not have a factory here. Luxury brands that are niche can get away with importing from outside the US.

I didn't say hot weather had anything to do with working in a auto plant.

Re. Bolded

The GOP are the party of social darwinism.

In Germany a Union reps on the board of big companies.

Workers on Corporate Boards? Germany’s Had Them for Decades

There is already a thriving example of how co-determination can work. Germany has the strongest system of co-determination in Europe, and it is a defining feature of its economy, the biggest in Europe. German laws dictate that workers at large companies elect up to half the members of supervisory boards, which make high-level strategic decisions, including how to invest profits and whom to hire for senior management positions. Workers also elect representatives to works councils, the “shop-floor” organizations that deal with day-to-day issues such as overtime pay, major layoffs and monitoring and evaluation.

You're free to go join a workplace that isn't unionized and have your pay and benefits immediately cut.

"Unions suck ass...that's why I personally benefit from them. But for everyone else stay away!" You're the perfect embodiment of the cucked American working class
even when non union jobs pay well they do partially because unions exist as competition.
