Had my first Zoom class discussion today.... 4 people (including myself and the professor) signed on out of 20......

As far as participation... the first question asked was if our 7 week course will be more difficult than the 15 weeks course..... a discussion that lasted about 15 minutes between the professor and that student for some reason.... than the other 2 people's screen went blank for most of the hour but the mics weren't muted and there were random, what sounded like male adult screams (during the go around one of them said they worked full time in a dementia ward) for the duration of her presentation which ended up going 30 minutes over the scheduled time...

So my participation skills will likely not be used during these Zoom sessions lol

I don’t want to
TBF I'm jaded from my job. Current and former has probably tainted my ability to see everyone as having redeemable aspects in them.

Dude, I like talking with you as we're in similar professions even if we occupy different portions of it but this is a forum... not you writing a brief for the Supreme Court.....

That goes for you too at times @Jack V Savage......

Wasn't even that long of a post IMO. I've had much longer. There are only a few posters that I think are gratuitously wordy, and JVS isn't one of them. Madmick, lfd0311, TGA (although I really appreciate his substance) are all that come to mind.

Regardless, that's not really an issue that I understand when the post isn't directed at you.

Those agonized screams coming from the floor above yours are always something.

So you are telling us you are already top of class?

In your last post, where you implied that I claim any claim of sexism is weaponization because I mentioned some that were problematic. And, IIRC, you even agreed on at least one of them (I seem to recall you also taking issue with AOC's racial remark about Pelosi).

If I am misunderstanding your post and wrongly taking offense, please feel free to correct me.

You can take offense, but my belief is that people are much more willing to grant the abstract existence of sexism than they are to acknowledge specific examples of it. As you say, that's not a blanket statement that all claimed examples are legitimate.

I think you're mostly right about ideological position, although it's also necessary to talk about intensity and influence on actual policy. There are some leftists who think social rhetoric is used economic centrist to give the impression of moving leftward without promoting anything that can connect to tangible and beneficiary policy. I think that's more or less accurate. There are very few on the left who think aggressive social rhetoric is itself used to sabotage and undermine socialistic efforts, and I don't think that's right.

OK. A related point here is that there's a lot of sniping from the portion of the left that identifies itself as opposing the mainstream left that is based on bullshit.
