The chatshow host Oprah Winfrey, the former US vice president Al Gore and a woman who rescued Polish children in the second world war are all believed to be among the 181 nominations received for the Nobel peace prize this year.

Awards committee secretary Geir Lundestad gave only a total number of nominations yesterday - 135 individuals and 46 organisations - without listing names, in keeping with prize rules. He said the nominations came "from the whole world".

Someone may have put her name forward but it would have been an extreme anomoly , all other recipients were active at the time of receiving the award further more could you not make the same meme every year , just take out Gore and insert the current years winner?
