Can you imagine the talking with Ferg and Conor? Ferg is right there with Conor and Nate in the "IDGAF" world, but will vocalize it more than Nate. Conor/Ferg is probably THE fight I'd be most excited for right now. I don't see any way it wouldn't be insanely entertaining.
I think Khabib would be more fun at press conferences. Ferg seems like he has to try when he talks like Eddie was, thus maybe why he seems to be abandoning that. Khabib seems genuine and just really fired up when he goes at it, and hes the most savage from the ridiculously savage nation of Russia, so watching Conor try to fuck with him would be interesting.

His post fight speech at 205 reminded me of something from WWF in the 80s. I thought it was great.

IDK, Ferg is a little crazy too. He doesn't really consider much to be out of bounds, and Conor would definitely be the guy to bring out "Where's your son" Ferg if anyone would.

Hey guys, not a thread for the Melbourne Fight Night card yet so figured I'd post this here in the meantime. Got a fair bit of free time this week so going to try and get as many breakdowns out as I can for this card, started watching fights this morning and going to try cover every fight (hopefully). Really had good success in the past when I've managed to really research the fights and break the down, even just for myself to put my thoughts into word helps a lot. If anyone has any particular ones they'd like done I'll try my best.

Marlon Vera vs. Guangyou Ning

═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
Marlon Vera represented Team Werdum on The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America where he won his quarter final fight via upkick KO against Enrique Briones. Unfortunately due to a skin infection he was forced out of the semi final and the tournament.

Vera dropped his debut against Marco Beltran where he was outworked with good top control and ground and pound but managed to attempt a few submissions along the way. Since then he has beaten Salazar via triangle-armbar combination and subsequently lost a unanimous decision to Davey Grant. Formerly training with Jackson-Wink MMA, Vera is now training with Team Oyama with the likes of Ian McCall and Josh Sampo, with regular training at 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu.
Vera is a work in progress on the feet but does have some dangerous knees, albeit he lacks finesse. Vera's Jiu Jitsu is his clear strength; incredibly active on top and bottom on the the mat, constantly hunting for submissions and sweeps. However, Vera suffers from the classic case of being a great Jiu Jitsu player without the good wrestling to utilise it fully. Until Vera either develops his standup and or wrestling he will never be a contender, however switching camps shows he is clearly looking learn and change up training methods, only time will show how that works out.
Guangyou Ning is also a former Ultimate Fighter cast member, where to match his nickname "Smasher" he smashed his way through the tournament with 2 KO victories before winning the eventual tournament finale where he beat Yang Jianping via Unanimous Decision.

Ning then went on to TKO Royston Wee in his next fight who wilted under the pressure on Ning's top control before succumbing to a head kick and barrage of heavy strikes to finish the fight. His next match up was against Marco Beltran where despite some early success he lost a very uneventful, almost sparring session like fight. He has since been out for close to a year and in that time he has changed camps from Tiger Muay Thai to the Asian Integrated Combat Training Institute in Beijing, of which I know nothing about, so don't think it would be fair to judge how this could affect his training.
Ning's game centres around throwing heavy strikes on the feet mixed in with powerful takedowns (aided by his fire hydrant build), crushing top control and bursts of big ground and pound. He has a solid Greco-Roman wrestling base which often allows him to dictate where he wants the fight to take place and I really feel that will be the key in this bout.
Ning should really be able to decide where he wants this fight to take place, I'd imagine his initial game plan with be to throw big shots on the feet and try and take out Vera this way. However if he isn't having much success he will be able to score takedowns against Vera. Vera will struggle to take down Ning so it's hard to see how he wins this; my only concern is if Ning does take Vera down and gets too comfortable in guard he is in a lot of danger due to Vera's incredibly active guard. Providing Ning sticks to a strict game plan and doesn't have a brainfart he should be able to take a decision in what will likely be a very hard fought contest.

it looks like this volkanovski guy has a lot of hype on him, any intel guys?

he's a 5'5 lightweight who used to fight at fucking middleweight.

Anyone liking aj? He could tag DC to a decision like he did against davis. His mistake the first fight is gassing himself out trying to get DC out early. He was owning DC in the exchanges and defending tds well.

I can't see him winning a decision over five rounds. I think he would need to be completely fresh to stuff td's all fight and i can't see aj being fresh for five rounds, especially when he will be defending a lot of takedowns.

Whittaker Brunson is an interesting one. I'm 5-0 betting on Brunson fights but for this one I am a little unsure. Brunson is going to be a lot bigger than Whittaker, but Whittaker is the best striker Brunson has faced since Larkin. I need to watch tape but I am guessing we don't really know what Whittaker's td defence is like, as he has faced strikers his past five fights? I remember not being massively impressed with him against Natal. I had money on Whittaker and it certainly wasn't the comfortable win I was expecting. So Brunson can probably wrestle here but will he as he is in love with this hands these days. Standing with Whittaker could be risky business, or will Brunson's power put Whittaker away...

Remember, brunson always has his chin exposed high. Iirc whittaker rocked wb

Just finished watching the marathon of fights. I would like to comment on the judging for a few fights which I had no action on.

Pearson-Ray --- 30-27 Pearson?!?!?!

Johnson-Volkov ---- horseshit utter robbery. I had Johnson winning that fight easily.

Henderson-Chandler --- 48-46 Henderson....what are you smoking?

MVP - Gonzalez --------- 30-27 Gonzales...maybe the worst scorecard I have ever seen.

Ward-Kovalev --- Jesus. After watching that, I will never bet on boxing.

I'm fairly sure there were some other bad ones, but these are the ones that come to mind.

Fully agree with all 5 of those. Was shaking my head as every one of them was read... especially the Johnson decision that cost me more zeros than I'd like to admit. I'm just glad the botched scores for Pearson and Henderson were of no consequence.

I ended up slightly up as Guchi + Bader hit. But that Tim decision cost me 7k profit. Wankers

holbrook nijem terrible terrible decision

I was on Nijem there and thought the price was a steal. Was pretty pissed.

But at least in that one you could justify giving it to Holbrook if you give big criteria for every sub attempt. I don't agree with it (even as a sub grappler myself), but at least one can be consistent with such a system.

Decisions like Johnson-Volkov and Pearson-Sanchez just don't make sens no matter which criteria you use.

oh shit I would love to see the war of words between Conor and Khabib. The trash talk leading up to the bout would be almost as good as the fight.

Khabib knows how to talk trash and would not be phased or intimidated.

Khabib has some CroCop-esque vibe reminds me of this:

Tyron Woodley should've got the nod against Wonderboy.

Tim Johnson was robbed by Volkov.

Judges owe me $600
