If 20 year old Mike Tyson started training mma in 2010 how would he have done

Lol. Mike Tyson now could probably beat the shit out of some of the scrubs in the UFC heavyweight division. MMA heavyweights are very low level athletes who have progressed very little since the glorified tough man days of Tank Abbott and co. Guys like Travis Browne and Brendan Schaub can do well in the UFC heavyweight division within a couple of years of taking up MMA in their mid twenties, despite having no prior combat sport experience. So the idea that someone like Tyson would struggle to succeed, or need many years of training just to be a contender, is laughable.

Mike Tyson is like 52 years of age. Why worry about what could or should be, when you can recruit the only Tyson that can actually fight right now, and I mean this future GOAT:

How would this Tyson do as a HW?

He's not just any short, explosive guy though is he? Could any 'short, explosive guy' become one of the most feared boxers in heavyweight history? The guy's 'explosiveness' would be on a different level to anything seen in the UFC, let alone the heavyweight division. If he'd started training at a top camp at age 20, there's no reason to believe he wouldn't have become lethal at MMA striking, as well as mastering top notch take down defence and a decent ground game.

Can imagine that USADA might be a problem from 2016 though.
no evidence he roided - he was always jacked, even as a teen, and is still jacked even though he does minimal training if at all. He admitted to doing drugs quite happily, sh*ts on his entire career all the time. If he were juicing, he'd probably admit it.

Cro cop is not explosive at all, he throws heavy leg kicks from a stationary strong base. I think you are conflating explosiveness with power.

WTF are you talking about before Cro Cop transitioned to MMA people were saying he would do well specifically because he is explosive and had more one punch/kick power than most other kickboxers.

you could be the most athletic and talented guy .... hell ... even jesus could tell you that you could dominate any sport, but if you are a boxer you will not achieve anything.

I heard the same shit about Adensaya. "high school wrestler stomps him".

He is the new champ ...funny how times change :D

Win some and lose some. Would be a nightmare for any of the "stand and bang" guys, would get tapped out or grinded to a decision by the guys with a strong bjj or wrestling base. That's just the reality of it for guys with even the best striking based backgrounds

Had Mike been fortunate enough to have Cus D'Amato guiding him further into his prime he would have continued to excel at any combat sport where punches are thrown. He was a once in a generation talent with a lot of psychological baggage. In the lighthearted, hypothetical tone of this thread I would say yes, if Mike had been born twenty five years later than he was and had Cus, along with a solid MMA training team, he would be a dominant champion in the LHW/HW division of any org of any era. He is one of the prime cases of "what if" in combat sports history.

Unfortunately you’ll always have the what if. What if cus. What if against buster, evander, Lennox....and could even cus keep a multimillionaire tyson on a somewhat straight path forever......

Let us see... Great chin, power, speed, unquenchable thirst to destroy opponents, a student of the game with an impeccable work ethic (at least up until 1989) ... I am guessing he would have done hmm pfft okay... but with 6 months sprawl training... unbeatable.

what does that mean his natural strength and how are you measuring that?
look up mike tyson when he was 14-16 and training with cus damato.

really watch his amateur fights, how young he was, how fast he was and his age. its absolutely insane

Absolutely right, the variables are endless. We will never know what Mike's true potential was and if he could have ever achieved it with the demons he carried around.
