I really should go give HSDK a re-read. That was another one of those series I'd look forward to every week.

The quality dipped after the Big Island Tournament (DOFD) but the following arcs kept me entertained and I liked the "Progression of Power " for the Main Character , his victories felt more strategic than just a straight Shonen power up.

I read the manga for a while when it was first starting up and didn't think it was anything special (seemed like a very generic action shonen to me). Though it seems to be better received than my own opinion of it so it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot.

It was slow, but not nearly the slowest. v39 took more than a year to fill. I'm a number nerd so I've actually kept track of these things. Can you believe we filled one of of these threads in just 13 days once? Crazy.

I'm trying to think of what was going on in the manga/anime world in July 2013 that we burned through two threads in under a month.

We should also mention that the Gintama manga ended this year. After a pretty long run.

I am not a huge fan of "tearjerker" type shows generally but it got me good a couple of times. The MC is a bit of an empty cipher but I liked the conceit and supporting cast, and of course the art is gorgeous.

Other people in here can probably tell you where it ranks in the canon but I think it's worth a watch.

Also in 2013 was roughly the final war arc in Naruto and Bleach was also reaching its last arc.

I swear Ippo's practically been a side character in his own manga for the better part of a decade now.
