Law Did a court ruling just invalidate the electoral college?

And yet still highly populated states have multiple times more say because they still get more electoral votes.

They don't per eligible voter, so I don't see what the issue is. Of course more populated states will have a greater overall say in a democracy (republic). Yet a Wyoming voter's vote already counts about 3.5 times as much as a Floridian's.

Yet Florida has ten times as many electoral votes making Wyoming voice mute.
It really is unfair.

Had The election of 2016 been reversed with Hillary winning the electoral college and Trump the popular vote you would be praising the electoral college as a vital safeguard against demagogues. You are no less partisan then those you decry.

I've never had a civics/history teacher that didn't explain that and why the electrical college is repugnant. Anyone who says otherwise is a partisan hack who wants the perks of surpressing the people's vote as they see fit.

Have you contacted your representative and senators?

No it allows rural states to have an equal say even if they have less people over all.

Nonsense. Fewer people represented per elector is not "equal say". It's greater say for people in small states.

Again the country is divided into states and that’s how it was such to be. The 10 amendment give the idea of how important states rights are.

Not privileging small state residents in Presidential elections wouldn't make state governments disappear.

White people should have a greater say than black people because there's more of us.

Nothing wrong with that at all..

If they made every African-Muricans vote worth 10X what yours is tomorrow(which is the system you guys are supporting for now because its netted you a couple elections) you guys would be out in the streets with guns and tiki torches.

Thats how hypocritical you guys are. Like Jack said you have no principles.

You're confusing geography with race.
Citizens are free to choose where they reside.

We don’t live in a democracy and it was never meant to be. The states we meant to be given an equal say not every individual.

Electing the President by popular vote wouldn't make the US a democracy.

And yet still less populated states have less say due to fewer electoral votes.
This isn't rocket science.

If there are 30 million people spread across 15 states, and the people of each state get on average 1 electoral vote per 500k residents, they have more say than the people of a single state with a population of 30 million that gets 1 electoral vote per 1 million residents. "States" don't have any say. They're abstractions. People have say, and the electoral college ensures people in smaller states have greater say.

No it was population but was meant to help even it out.

The only true equity is the senate.

It wasn't meant to even it out either. I've mentioned this a couple of times, but we only get this situation where people in smaller states have a disproportionate say in the vote as an unintended side effect of the 1929 capping of the House of Representatives.

Have you contacted your representative and senators?

Not only do I reach out to my representatives I like to hit up regulatory bodies and respond to calls for public comment about issues I care about. The single common theme is they don't give a shit. I'm not rich and I'm not a major donor.

Then why do we still have the electoral college? I'm not trying to start any stuff, I'm just trying to understand that if my state goes for President "Doe" by a landslide, my elector can just say..

"Nah mane... I'm voting for Andy Dick".

????

Because most states have laws against faithless electors (electors who don’t vote for the candidate they are pledged to vote for).

Faithless electors can be fined, censured, or face other legal penalties depending on the state they reside in.

Most electors are chosen by political parties (some through primaries). The reason why electors generally don’t go rogue is because the consequences are too great for them to bear.

If you’re hoping this is going to undo the electoral college, you are going to be disappointed. This ruling reaffirms a reality that anyone who is familiar with American politics already knew.

Why do we have it when the elector can just vote how they feel?

Say President Trump wins NY by a landslide and the elector says... "Nah, I'm voting for Alfred E. Neuman".

How is that right?

The electoral college was all well and good when your chances of never leaving your hometown, much less your state was a distinct possibility. But now in this modern age, we shouldn't have to rely on such an ancient system.

And cut back on the monster energy drinks man...

It’s not an ancient system. You’re just too stupid to understand what it is, how it works, or why it is superior to the popular vote.
