Kyle Snyder lost to a Dagestani in the Semi-Finals

He was a national champion when the Soviet Union was still around, IIRC.

I've never seen anything to prove this FWIW. I also saw it phrased a 'Soviet University Champion' or something which is more believable (although again, no proof that I've seen).

Anyway he was obviously very good to have beaten Kevin Jackson (even if Kevin wasn't at peak for that bout or whatever).

I'm also not sure I'd call Vlad an MMA flop, was he a great? no, but he was in the UFC for a long time, fought for titles, and was decent for the time if not great.
Just goes to show how high the bar is set for wrestlers.

he was in terms of wrestling he never held took guys down dominated he was a striker basically i think after 20 something years we have enough data now to prove folkstyle translates over much better than freestyle for mma grappling mma is everywhere isnt like its just an american sport and europeans arnt doing it

if we have enough data maybe you can list a bunch of notable euro free guys - more then I can count on one hand - who have even tried MMA?
saying 'they don't try because they know they would fail' is not an answer, it's a cop out and also not true.

As for Vlad, he's actually a Greco guy originally (according to Russian wikipedia at least - I assume they know better?) and was even living and working as a wrestling coach with a US college by the time MMA started in the 2nd half of the 90s.
Of that era, he sure did way better than folk legend Royce Alger. I'd say he was about equal to Kevin Jackson in MMA accomplishments. ;)

im not just talking about top guys theirs guys who barely won state in hs who go onto make great mma wrestlers u dont see low level freestyle guys dominating with grappling again i cant name a single freestyle wrestler in mma who dominated with it in the almost 30 years of mma vs listing over a hundred folkstyle guys

No this has likely much more to do with the prevalence of Murrcan wrestlers in the UFC and the relative absence of non-Murrcan wrestlers up until now.

Also, if we look at the 2 most dominating wrestlers (or at least wrestling heavy fighters) in their weight classes in recent history, i.e. GSP and Khabib, these 2 likely never trained folkstyle one day in their lives.

Can you provide some examples of non-american wrestlers who dominated their non-american organizations and should have been in the UFC? I hear this a lot but I don't recall many non-american freestyle-based wrestlers dominating other orgs

UFC.....
D1.....
Heaven of the world. <45><Lmaoo>

I don t follow other orgs sorry

Nice troll...

It's okay though, because once Madsen gets his hands locked around Khabib we won't be hearing about his "great wrestling" (when he's never even fought an okay one in MMA let alone done anything on the international level). The Dane will treat him like a rag-doll and that's putting it nicely.

Who are all these great wrestlers Khabib has faced again? Oh wait, none...

Would you conceed that I have a point bringing up Khabib and GSP as extremely dominant champions who relied mostly on freestyle as opposed to folk?

Inb4 Nurmagomedov brings Vlasov in lol. But honestly, Nurmagomedov would probably sweep him from his back, he is much more of a complete grappler than Madsen.

If he trains at a good US MMA gym he can learn it.

it seems alot dont though tbh u gotta honestly watch yourself in the gym and make adjustments tbh most folkstyle guys dont work on it they tbh just start doing things that feel natural to them like cradles leg riding wrist riding ect

khabib learnt it which is why he went to aka and left the sambo k dojo

Khabib did sambo and gsp trained wrestling specifically for mma, neither of them competed in international competition or even in local tournaments as far as is reported

If you look at old mma fights was the level of keeping guys down high? The folkstyle riding as far as I known was there.
