Kyle Snyder lost to a Dagestani in the Semi-Finals

This thread just turned the grappling forums into the heavyweights.

There are regions with nationalities that highly respects grappling. Money can't change nation's soul.

In U.S majority of population don't knows nor MMA nor wrestlings rules. Including folkstyle.
To watch boxing and bet on it is easier; blood, at least they see punches etc.

In Mongolia they have different approach and society accepts high level grapplers/ wrestlers like U.S sports fans does with tittle belt holders in boxing for example or NBA top athletes.

Yes, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Iran, Turkey; society threats they like top judokas in Japan.
BTW, they have judokas, wrestlers, sambo athletes, even greco - roman.
Turkey and Mongolia have their own grappling arts with old roots too.
To grapple for them is the same popularity that boxing for U.S, even more than boxing in U.S.
In Russia there are regions, where their local arts were before even Carist Russia Emipre time.
Yakutia for example.

Turkey for example, have judokas, jujutsu guys, greco - roman, freestyle a lot because for them it is pride.
Including not too supported their national style- art.
Weightlifters too.

Russia, Turkey, Mongolia /whatever Country would trade all their Gold medals for 1 Soccer world Cup.

Ballsports is the new black sorry buddeh.

Now the final is vs 2 wrestlers from Dagestan.. a region with population of around 2-3 million and they produce a lot of high level grapplers from wrestling, judo, sambo, MMA.. heck Khabib's own village has like 7 of them to put things into perspective if you meet someone from Dagestan chances are he will out-grapple you with a hand tied behind his back.

95% or more are Training combat Sports, because they are pushed into it. I bet more Dagestan guys Train MMA than guys from the states, brazil or EU combined.

They produced 1 champ in 8-10 years and they maybe have 1-2 guys for a titlte fight.

The Dagestan Hype is out of Control. .. lmao.

Sadulaev vs Sharifov is next

Dagestani on Dagestani crime <{danawhoah}>

Sadulaev with 5 world-level titles at only 23 years old. And 1 silver.

What is it about the caucasus region and wrestling???

Unreal

Like how come the only time you ever hear about Georgia is because some wrestler
because they get special training since childhood? amateur athletes dont get taken care of in usa

They spend the first 22 years of their lives training folkstyle, whereas Russians spend their entire lives doing freestyle...

i think that matters some but tbh the ground work in freestyle isnt near as technical as folk right?

nice joke.

many elite wrestlers in russia dont even try MMA, cuz its not worth the risk & hes one the best ... lmfao.

He will never try MMA:" However, I am enjoying my sport, which is spectacular, courageous and without Insults."

cause russian wrestlers do freestyle which doesnt translate as good to mma as folk theirs a reason that just average us wrestlers do great in mma yet well get olympic guys in free style who barely make it far due to the fact they cant hold guys down yoel doesnt even wrestle hardly due to not being able to keep guys down even though he has a size advantage that speaks for itself

That's not the reason, and the only 'proof' we have it doesn't translate as well is some Americans (who are hardly unbiased) saying so.

It makes sense that folk might translate a little better in some areas, but it's hardly big enough a difference to make a big deal about IMO.

The more important thing is they get good training to adapt their wrestling to MMA (this is something America is far ahead of the rest of the world at, for obvious reasons).

the proof is that russia and iran are the best freestyle wrestlers on the planet and they hardly ever make it far in mma

when people try to study good examples of using wrestling for mma its never by freestyle guys from europe

that's because there are barely any Freestyle (or Greco) guys even trying to make it in MMA, especially not ones from Russia or Iran where they are well compensated in their own sports (not to mention cultural/political difficulties for Iran).

Still, we got a Danish Greco silver medallist on next weekends UFC card, coming in with an 8-0 record, let's see how far he can go ;)

Yoel is nit Russian, he is 40 and doesn’t want to consume energy wrestling
Most eastern europe wrestlers are black belts in judo and train Sambo. Their ground game is usually fine.
UFC is a US company absolutely normal that they favor US athletes and absolutely normal that US wrestlers are more interested in a career in UFC than Russian wrestlers.

i dont believe that russia loves mma and lots of guys dont go out holding guys down khabib even had t take his guys to aka to really learn how to hold guys down and use the cage as russia is mostly about fighting in rings the fact those russian muslims go all the way to usa to train for their fights speak for itself

the takedown isnt the thing its knowing what to do after a takedown dan henderson had great clinch takedowns so did matt lindland but they never could hold their men down usually which is why dan stopped trying to wrestle guys his last 5 years

my first wrestling coach was form iran named kamal shalaros who fought in wec and ufc he stoped trying to wrestle guys because he couldnt keep them down after so he fell in love with throwing big shots

no yoel takes guys down lots of times but they get right back up if he could stay on top he would he doesnt try to keep taking guys down because he sees that guys are poping right back up like in the gym as well the fact he even goes fr takedowns at all disprove what you are saying who the hell is gonna waste the energy to hit a double to just let them back up lol

isnt Vladimir mastuchenko or whatever his name did amazing in freestyle beat guys like kevin jackson ect and look at his mma wrestling ud never know it by how he fights and gets taken down controlled a lot in fights

He was a national champion when the Soviet Union was still around, IIRC.
