Elections Canadian Federal Election 2019 Thread

With the Bloc having such success, I shudder to think what kind of sleazy shenanigans the Libranos will engage in to try to buy the Quebec votes back. With a sneaky fuck like Butts pulling strings they may be able to put the AdScam to shame, and since their die-hard supporters have shown that they will forgive the Dauphin for just about anything they won't be worried about pushing the envelope.

Scheer should have run on building a wall and deporting illegals. Conservatives in the West can't win on lowering taxes and being nice to rabid leftists. The party establishments can't get that through their head.

Western Canada cannot defeat eastern Canada no matter what.

Nobody in this world, fears Canada as a nation. America keeps its pimp hand strong and would love to accept Canadians into the union. So then the liberals of Canada would have to find money elsewhere

Stop. This is nonsense LMFAO

Crazy to think that Bernier lost to a Conservative. Not like I pretend to have my finger on the pulse of that specific riding but he's been the MP forever and his old man was as well back in the 80s and 90s so I figured it was a family thing, a personal charisma thing or whatever that won that seat for the Cons. Looks like the people there were really put off by the PPC heel turn.....I wonder if he'll continue in politics or if he'll jump right into the right-wing grift circuit. I still think that the Cons could have won with Max instead of that bonehead Scheer.

Cons winning the popular vote and Trudeau not being able to field a cabinet member from two provinces has me thinking we will be calling an election within 2 years.

We need a new system

I'm not worried. At this point theres nothing in me but thc and resignation.

Even though I bitch about the playbook, still doesn't mean I'm not now and forever on Team Canada. I believe Canada is strong enough to survive Poodeau. I hope that they can make things work for all Canadians instead treating each interest group like currency.

I take some consolation that your boy has been chastened, defanged and exposed. Hopefully the Liberals can sober up and get on with the business of governing instead of preening.
Not "my boy"

Lol, I got what I wanted. Nice fuckin' goose egg, Maxime. Maybe the people didn't hear you say ''VeNeZuEla.''

So with this minority government now in place, what does that mean for the next four years? Stalemate?

Well for one, probably less than four years before we’re back at the polls again.

Other than that, probably not much will happen. With a mandate like this, and the NDP coming in with significantly less power than they expected, coming fourth over all, there won’t be any coalition government.

Expect modest, uncontroversial bills being put out by the liberal government during. Nothing crazy that could bring them down.

Anddddddd still

I don't think the Conservatives will be inclined to change FPTP. It's a great environment for them, they just suck ass.

Not sure with the fptp system and the electoral district breakdown based on population density, and with that the influence of the gta, van and Montreal - that it favors the conservatives. It was a pretty blue map landwise and they did win the popular vote - mixed member or some variation would benefit them more so.

Just a tad sad that the 2015 liberals were running hard on electoral reform and by not doing so, save their own ass tonight.

Well my ideal would be ranked ballots, and that would be hell for the Conservatives. Whatever you change the system to, there is going to be a change in the way people vote as well, it's hard to predict. I just meant that if you suppose Conservative politics, you really only have one party to vote for. People on the other side have to choose between three options, it just so happens the Liberals outperformed expectations, other than the Bloc roaring back.

I won't be voting Liberal again until some sort of positive electoral reform.

This guy's having a rough night.

Canada is literally over, because literally Hitler Justin Trudeau went from a majority to a minority government.

Dude's gonna turn a gun on himself soon.

No one will ever follow through on electoral reform. To do so, they'd have to win a majority, and why would you change a system that just gave you a majority?

Liberals met expectations for the most part. 338 Canada had it 161 seats for liberal minority for pretty much the entire month with a conservative pop vote. It was the last week where everything swung. Ranked ballot is my least favourite options but you're right that center right people only have the one option although Liberals do offer another possibility for some areas - alot of GTA red candidates and ridings are pretty center right especially Thornhill, Richmond Hill, etc.
