@Bacco stop buying all the food for yourself
This happened because the mayor started locking from a day to another some activities (schools, cinema, bars after 18.00 etc), making think more strict lock may be called soon if the virus keep spread

In particular some items, like mask or hygienic products to clean hands gone sold-out quickly, so people guessed it's better store some food too

I got some good supplies as sathurday we just made a big grocery shopping as we ever do, tonight i go fill the car's gasoline

Some good basics to follow that people never do is never let your tank get below half full. Last thing you want is a run on the gas stations and now you’re stranded

Really wish we had a poll reviewing concern @Arkain2K

Nah, leave that to the Mayberry.

Put up a poll in this Breaking News thread and it would derail the discussion every other posts, when people from far ends of the spectrum (the hysterical "the end is nigh!" type and the "it's just the flu!" type) jumping in face-first just to defend their equally-idiotic viewpoint.

In this thread, we have rational and informed people discussing the latest events and facts, not other people's feeling.

So one of my associates traveled to Venice, Italy over the weekend. Sent a pic of the Markus square (shut down).

What say you, Sherdog? Should I make her stay at home for 14 days when she returns? :)

She should check with a doctor and let them know where she's been at least.

CDC has confirmed 53 cases of novel coronavirus in the US
From CNN’s Michael Nedelman

There are now 53 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in the United States, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday.

These include 36 people who were aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship, three people repatriated from China and 14 US cases.

This reflects an increase in 18 cases from Friday, all among Diamond Princess passengers. At the time, CDC officials said that there were additional passengers who had tested positive for the virus in Japan and would likely be added to the official US count once those test results had been adjudicated.

The 14 US cases include eight in California, one in Massachusetts, one in Washington state, one in Arizona, two in Illinois and one in Wisconsin. Among these cases, there are two instances of person-to-person transmission, one in Illinois and one in California.

Doctors and nurses fighting on the front line are dropping like flies in China.

Unfortunately, they are just nameless statistics when there are so many.

Global food shortages and other material shortages.

It will have far reaching damage and will cause more deaths indirectly due to poverty.

So many countries are depending on cheap Chinese goods.

And some governnents foolishly allied with the chinese ecconomically while trying to push out western partners.

Putting all of your eggs in one basket is a plan for failure.

WTF WHO, really? You don't use the term pandemic anymore?

Lmao

W.H.O.: There can't be a pandemic if the word pandemic isn't part of our vocabulary
<seedat>

After the fiasco with Ebola in Africa (intentionally delaying announcing the epidemic under the pressure of African governments) and now kowtowing to China, I'm 100% okay with the West pulling out from the WHO and expand collaboration on our affiliated global network of national CDC agencies that we have established over the years.

Always better to err on the side of caution.

You are making it sound like these organizations are well funded and competent.

The WHO had a responsibility to declare it a pandemic early on when it was obvious what it was. It fit the model on their own website. They instead released a statement that each country is responsible for its own policy on how it wants to best deal with it.

I understand the WHO failure but everything thing else is on the Chinese government suppressing information.

I'm praying for you brother.

I'm praying for us all... :(

I'm easily one of the top ten most prepared around Sherdog. but thanks.
I'll be A-OK, the old man moved back to the old country and the youngin is in boot camp.

However, my oldest niece works in a casino, and as we know Asians never ever gamble ( o_O ) and as she has two young kids I'm thinking she needs to take some time off.

World Health Organization team arrives in Italy
From CNN's Lindsay Isaac

A team of health experts from the World Health Organization and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control have arrived in Italy, the site of Europe's biggest coronavirus outbreak.

The team will “support Italian authorities in understanding the situation,” the WHO said in a statement. Their focus will be on “limiting further human-to-human transmission,” it said.

“WHO experts are providing support in the areas of clinical management, infection prevention and control, surveillance and risk communication," the statement said.

The WHO said it is concerned over what it calls the “rapid” increase in reported cases in Italy. “However, it should also be noted that based on current data, in the majority of cases (4 out of every 5) people experience mild or no symptoms,” it added.
