A friend at work just got back from Thailand. He had a layover in China both ways. He was told not to come back to work for 2 weeks.
So he basically got 2 extra weeks of vacation?

They're going into production on a vaccine in Australia. Hopefully they got it right, but thousands of trained scientists are working on finding one right this second. That might be a comforting thought.. Any personal worry for me sort of melts when I think of the medical personnel walking into enemy lines day after day, the people cleaning the rooms, instruments etc. Gotta bust out of the tunnel vision if it's only compounding stress and not helping us prepare, putting ourselves in other's shoes is a reliable method
I appreciate it. I'm not desperate or panicking. I know what's up, I'm mostly ok with it.
The vaccine hopefully will keep it from reoccurring, but the cat is out of the bag. I doubt it will be stopped.

These Italians have big mouth and are proud, they will also spreading it to Romania since we have close ties with Italy. Italy is certainly less organized, now the only good measure was to close that area.

Romanian reporters went to Italy, they had no cords at all. There is military in other free regions but medical staff not. There is no police cord at all in closed regions. This is what the our reporters related, and that there is nothing too drastic.

This shit will not defeat my country but unfortunately because of the immigrants external and internal we can"t close the borders like Austria.

Thank you, Italy, the people do not know the truth they didn"t organize for this and are banana republic! They are also not welcoming reporters, they hide incompetency.

Here is EU, and not Korea. I expected more. Spain had 3 cases, all healed. I pray for my country to understand it"s better to close the contact with Italy now. Thousands of Romanians and Italians came and went these days, through our borders.

Dude. For reals don't leave the house for two weeks. That's nuts. I wouldn't have gone, even with tickets being paid for

A coworker of mine it's going there for 4 weeks mid march. He usually goes to small villages and stuff. I told him that not being in Bangkok would be a good idea.

Good thing this friday is my last day.

Saying that almost normalizes the thought. We definitely do not want to have Covid-19 season every year. Think about it, this virus already has a mortality rate of 1-3% depending on who you ask, with 3% being particularly scary. If it has annual season and mutates and jumps to a 5% mortality rate, or God forbid higher, its going to fuck us up like a Edson Barboza wheel kick to the dome at some point. Even if it just stays at 2% mortality, it currently threatening to shut down the global economy.
"Right leg hospital, left leg COVID-19"

In San Diego for a work trip, been here many, many times in the last 12 years. There's always a couple fighter jets flying around the area, as well as the occasional Osprey and military cargo plane, but I've noticed a lot more Osprey traffic on this trip, maybe 4x usual. Just had one fly over my hotel eastbound, then two fly over the hotel westbound, and here comes one more eastbound.

Anyone live in San Diego that can speak to whether or not I'm imagining things?

*edit*
Not tryna monger any fear btw, just curious about something I noticed, and remembering the story of a few folks accidentally being released from Miramar/UCSD Medical

That's pretty edgelord. You are telling me that a worldwide bailout similar to the 2008 crisis is coming and its going to be blamed on a virus to trick us all...meaning the virus is a set up of Ocean 11 proportions.

I’m with him on this.

This virus will be forgotten by spring

M.I. 7 filming put on hold due to CV outbreak in Italy.

"Mission: Impossible VII was set to shoot for three weeks in Italy but the production of the film has been put on hold due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. COVID-19 has infected over 200 people in Italy where six people have now died from the virus.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a spokesperson for Paramount Pictures confirmed that the Mission: Impossible VII production plan has been altered to include a hiatus as a safety measure for cast and crew."

White House request to Congress for $2.5B to combat coronavirus
February 24, 2020

The White House submitted a request to Congress on Monday for $2.5 billion in supplemental spending to help combat the global coronavirus outbreak.

The request included $1.25 billion in new money, with the rest coming from unspent funds. The measure would help the federal government, as well as state and local agencies, potentially prepare to respond to an outbreak and allocate cash for vaccine development, a senior administration official told Fox Business.

One source familiar with the request told Fox News that the administration was careful “not to sound alarm bells” over the supplemental spending request, but added, “It is better to have, certainly with finite funds.”

The Department of Health and Human Services already has tapped into an emergency infectious disease rapid response fund and has been seeking to transfer more than $130 million from other HHS accounts to combat the virus but was pressing for more.

Among the needs: funding to reimburse the Pentagon, which has been housing evacuees from China — required to undergo 14-day quarantines — at several military bases in California.

Democrats controlling the House wrote HHS Secretary Alex Azar earlier this month to request funds to help speed up the development of a coronavirus vaccine, expand laboratory capacity and beef up screening efforts at U.S. entry points. Azar is slated to testify before the Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday, and the U.S. response to the outbreak is sure to be a major topic.

The White House budget office, led by Russell Vought, has been working with HHS to shape the request. There's been a receptive audience for the request on Capitol Hill, though stand-alone emergency spending bills can be tricky to pass since they could be a target for lawmakers seeking add-ons.

The quickly spreading virus has slammed the economy of China, where the virus originated, and cases have been increasing rapidly in countries such as South Korea, Iran and Italy.

I have a buddy addicted to video games and this virus is really enabling his addiction. He says anyone still going outside at this point is just risking their life.
