I'm not in the know but it says something that US banks won't lend to him. I know a guy that runs a ranch that if he has to take out a loan in order to cover costs (say he has a rough winter that kills a large chunk of his herd like last winter) the loan has to be in his name cause of how volatile ranching as a business can be.

If you have bankruptcies, where you walked away from the debts you left in the company, then banks are going to want your personal assets to guarantee the next loan.

Also, you know your friend who is constantly in financial hock because they have no self control? Well, there are rich-people versions of your friend.

Because institutional lenders are not idiots. If they're signing a contract with (what they know to be) a shell corporation, they want a personal guarantor if the shell company goes bust.
