He has been rewritten over the years, and people remember him more fondly now than when he was the President. He was a very well "liked" President based on his personality, but American's opinion on how well he did his job was not always very high. I think that he's remembered well in hindsight for the former, rather than the latter.

If he recovers you can expect him to play the "I won" card against the virus; like he defeated it through some direct actions of his own. The warrior/fighter narrative will be glorious!

This narrative will most certainly stabilize his existing base of supporters/voters and may even convince millions of swingers that it's no big deal.

The left would then certainly die on the "he never had COVID in the first place, this was all theatre" hill and we'd have more sensational media to filter through.
