Official War Room Awards 2020: A Back Alley Love Story

It was a pretty poor targeted tag in retrospect

Nope, I honestly wanted to tag you expecting we'd commonly laugh at @irish_thug for even suggesting this degree of complexity and organisation. But I had no idea you were this traumatized <TheWire1>

I’ll admit when I saw the initial discussion, I got nervous it would lead to an ask for a registered list. You know what’s funny is the forum search feature now allows for us to see post count all time in the WR or any timeframe we want. Back in the elections, I could only search and see the last 200 posts for the WR. There would’ve been far more capabilities on deciding a criteria at the point. Though I think 200 posts in the WR a year did it’s job.

Did you see the newest Terminator movie?
If we're talking about the one with the skinny androgynous terminator then I've seen it inasmuch as it was on while I was doing other shit in the house, I only sat down and payed real attention to about half of it and it wasn't pulling me in. Seemed like pretty much television level stuff, although sometimes TV is a better medium for science fiction.

The trailer for that movie was a real clunker so I couldn't get fired up for it. Damn shame because I really want to like one of these movies and they usually drop like a damn turd. Terminators, Aliens, Predators, this shit shouldn't be that hard.

In all fairness you went through an adjustment period after Fawlty's demise. There was a period of about 72 hours where your posting was frequently off the rails, as if your programming was was having issues acquiring new targets. I was concerned, as were others.

It was like I've always wondered what the Terminator was supposed to do after he killed Sarah Connor.
The show must go on.

Blows my mind they can’t nail a new terminator movie. Or Aliens, predator etc. It’s almost like somebody lost a bet among the higher up Hollywood types and it’s a running joke for those 3 series to pump out crap for us.

I brought that up because you said you wondered what the Terminator would do if it killed Sarah Connor. The beginning of the movie shows a T800 walking up and killing John Connor and then having nothing to do so it becomes self aware and raises a family and opens a business.

The Alien and Terminator original sequels were actually quite good but that's a rarity. It was still James Cameron writing and directing though. These movies are now like a MAGA rally. You know you have a base so if you keep the production costs down you can expect a certain profit.

i rewatched that 3rd alien movie a while back, despite having a cast of well repected mainly british actors, paul mcgann, phil davies , charles dance etc, and direction by david fincher, it manages to be pretty mediocre.

Oh good god

Well shit that shows how much attention I was paying but damn, that's the best they could do? Somebody should have stood up and stopped that from happening, too bad.

Beginning of the movie is a flashback to 98. Sarah and John (CGI younger Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong) are on the beach. A T800 walks up out of nowhere and kills John with a shotgun and then just walks off in the ocean. Flash forward to 2020 and the T800 has somehow aged and adopted a family and calls itself Carl.

The action scenes were very well done in that movie, though. Even if the story was crap.

Yeah how do you mess up nearly invincible robots trying to wipe out humans? That crap was intended and they made them all badly since T2. Seems on purpose at this point

Alien never needed a backstory or exposition. It worked because the Aliens origin and nature were a complete mystery.

Eh? There was the whole alien ship thing and speculation that it was a biological weapon.

It was just that, speculation. It didn't need all the exposition, it made it less scary and less interesting. Some writers/directors really know how to fuck up their own material.
