Game Services thread, v2: Ubisoft headline portends a darker gaming future

Some are saying this works for them, others say it isn't. You might have to get creative, like creating a second account to gift it to your primary account, but it's worth a shot. This is $44 off retail for three months of Ultimate.

*Edit* Note that while EA Play is available to Game Pass users on Xbox (and Android) already, it will be arriving on the service for PC users on December 15th.

Sony launched recently their End of Year promotion -- go to Featured in-store. If you recall from previous years and depending on what you've played, there are titles on offer marked down to single digits but selling outside promotion for 50€ whatnot; in other words, steals. Have a gander and see if you are feeling anything.

Looks like they delayed EA Play game pass for PC. Wont come to PC until 2021. I was planning on signing back up once this deal went into affect. Will hold off until that happens.

I was disappointed when I logged in on December 15th and saw nothing, but I'd rather it worked smoothly than we got Cyberpunk's mess. Microsoft just acquired Codemasters and Smash.gg this month.

In the meantime, they made it up to subscribers by spontaneously adding another 10 games to the service.
Xbox Game Pass Adds 10 New Games, Including 2020's Most Popular New Sensation: Among Us

  • Among Us
  • Beholder
  • Code Vein
  • The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan
  • Monster Train
  • MotoGP 20
  • My Friend Pedro
  • Neoverse
  • Unto the End
  • Wilmot's Warehouse

December already brought a +7 net to the service with an even more substantial upgrade to the exchanged content's popularity, so this makes it +17 for the month:

Damn Metro Exodus was on sale like last week and my wife paid $43 as part of my xmas present. Now the gold edition is $23. I submitted a refund request since I never even downloaded the game. I was waiting to finish up some other games first. Didn't really see anything else I wanted other than octopath but I think I'll wait and see if that drops even more in the future.

And then some of the monster sellers that are close enough to historical lows. Not a unique price range, but if you wanted them, this is one of the windows to buy them:

AC: Origins for $11.99

Far Cry 5 for $11.99:

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War for $9.99

The Crew 2 for $9.99:

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus for $7.99

Another impromptu addition to the service. Yes. It is now on Game Pass, too. It was as inevitable as death and taxes.
YOU NEED TO PLAY THE DECADE'S MOST IMPORTANT RPG FOR FREE ON XBOX GAME PASS

Game Pass users get the special edition of the game, which is something of a definitive edition of the game. Released in 2016, the double-dip features remastered visuals and effects. In addition to buffed visuals, it includes all of the game’s DLC. That means players get the Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn expansions at no added cost.

Most importantly, the special edition includes mod support for consoles. While Skyrim is an experience in its own right, playing Skyrim with mods is a game in and of itself. Players can turn dragons into Thomas the Tank Engine, add lute-toting bard bears, or replace the sound of skeleton footsteps with blaring trumpet noise. That’s only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the crazy ways fans have found to tear the game apart over the past decade.

Here are some all-store historical lows worth noting:

Jurassic World Evolutions for $4.49:

Styx: Master of Shadows for $1.99:

Grim Dawn for $4.99:

Here are some Steam historical lows:

Sniper Elite 4 for $8.99:

We Happy Few for $8.99:

Grim Dawn and Sniper Elite are a couple of bargains. Definitely snap them up if you haven't already guys.

PSN has two Jedi Knight games on sale: I think one $5.99 and another $11.99 which is Jedi Academy. Any good? I think I bought the first Jedi Knight. The Jedi Academy one said it has online multiplayer and single player.

A bunch of other PS2 on PS4 Star Wars also on sale.

Jedi Knight II was great fun.

Steam just released their Best of 2020 lists.

Interesting. Crazy to see Among Us and Fall Guys up there with the giant AAA games.
I had no idea that Destiny 2 was free to play. When did that happen? And yet it still made the platinum tier for revenue.

It's been a while now since D2 went FTP. What's weird is that they then followed it up with the weird decision of removing most of the FTP stuff that was in the game. You can still do the PVP and the beginning intro (which they've also changed) but all the old content they made free, they then removed. Very weird move by Bungie.

It's still not truly F2P because you have to buy the latest expansion, Beyond Light ($30), to play all the dungeons that are current.

So it's like World of Warcraft. Sure, it's free for a massive amount of content, but you can't play any of the raids everyone else is playing, and you can't level to the cap to be able to enjoy any PvP that is meaningfully populated either. Essentially, you're getting a glorified demo for free.

It's fucking stupid is what it is.

Sorry to derail, but with Stadia and Nvidia Stream can I use the games bought on steam? I got a little confused how licensing works with each service

Destiny 2 was the PS+ free game of the month about two years ago. I downloaded it but only played like the first hour or so. If they subsequently made the game f2p and then not, would that have affected my ability to play through the campaign? I’m not interested in paying for any of the expansions, but wouldn’t mind playing through the base game’s campaigns even just once.
