This is completely not true. Doesn’t matter if the arm is under the chin, if you can strip the hand off the top of the head you are out of the sub. You want to sink an rnc deep? bury your hand behind their head.

I’m just saying, imagine you have a guy sneak a fully locked in RNC on you before you even thought about defending. Regardless of how easy it is to say fight the hand, I’m sure you know what a completely locked in choke feels like, especially if the guy has a good squeeze. He never saw it coming and felt it was in before he did anything at all, it’s not something you just escape.

I’ve been in hundreds of rncs over eight years of bjj. That’s how I know Andrei straight up quit because he wanted out of there lol all good though man, you’re probably right he was still rocked from the first round and was scared of taking gnp if he got out.

My impression too, had he fought the submission he would have gotten koed. He was in a bad position

I hate to say it, but as experienced as Arlovski is (20 year career) its shocking to see him so easily submitted after not even putting up any basic grappling defense against the RNC.

Its like tapped immediately feeling the slightest discomfort.

I think it had more to do with him being legitimately rocked/ready to quit from hitting his head against the turnbuckle than it being super sunk.

Aspinall is crazy fast for a HW, phenomenal hand speed, and damn quick in grappling as well.

However, the way he backs up in a straight line with his chin in the air, and how much his chin gets exposed in general..it will get him punished sooner or later.
